Pottsie proving a flag-bearer for Harrington
Jessica Harrington’s stable has not done as well as expected this jumps season but the yard have two runners in this.
Sizing Pottsie has been among the stable’s top earners and taken well to fences having unseated his rider on his debut in what has turned out to be a hot race at Leopardstown.
He won the Grade 3 Flyingbolt at Navan earlier this month, beating Cut The Mustard (a general 8/1) 12 lengths.
That has earned him a penalty and means the runner-up is 7lb better off but most pundits and bookmakers expect him to confirm the form and he is a best 5/2.
Can Zero be the hero?
Zero Ten was no match for Cash Back at Naas two runs ago but he did finish ahead of Dunvegan (8/1 with Ladbrokes). However, he then fell when a very hot favourite at Punchestown.
That means there is a question mark hanging over Emmet Mullins’ charge at present as he probably didn’t beat a great deal at Galway last summer. His jumping will need to be much better to land a race like this at 10/3 with Coral.
De Bromhead entry should be in the mix
A line through Cash Back suggests Capuccimix should beat Zero Ten.
Henry De Bromhead’s novice unseated his rider at the first in the same Leopardstown race in which Sizing Pottsie also failed to finish but he started at much shorter odds.
The grey’s second behind Chosen Mate at Gowran was franked when the winner landed the Grand Annual at Cheltenham and Rachael Blackmore’s mount then won in a hack canter at Naas so the general 7/1 looks good value.
Ministerforsport may be improving
Having run nine times over fences, Ministerforsport is more exposed than most.
But he probably produced a career-best when second in a Naas Grade 3 last time. Dallas Des Pictons (????) was less than a length behind in fourth, however, and there is no guarantee than Noel O’Neill’s runner will be in the same mood here. The nine-year-old is a best 14/1 here.
Predictions
Sizing Pottsie’s Grade 3 penalty makes this interesting.
While he should run well, the top weight will need to improve again and CAPUCCIMIX looks a better option given a very easy victory last time will have boosted confidence levels.
Cut The Mustard’s form has been consistent and it will be disappointing if he can’t make the frame at least again.
