Trumps Ace

The current form has been there for Trump’s Ace. He has landed back to back wins at Clonmel. In the first of those wins he beat out Kavanagh’s Corner and in the second success, he got the better of Bridge Native.

So the form makes him a major contender here. He is certainly peaking right now. The trip is a little bit longer than he has been successful at, which is perhaps the one area of doubt over his chances.

But he’s hot right now and heads to Thurles at the 5/1 favourite* (odds taken from Boylesports at 17:05 GMT on Friday, 20th March 2020)

Kavanagh’s Corner
7/1

Wrong Direction

Wrong Direction is being well supported for this contest at 6/1* (odds taken from Betfred at 17:05 GMT on Friday, 20th March 2020).

His notable effort this season was a second-place at Cork over 3m, behind Cheltenham Foxhunter winner It Came To Pass.

He hasn’t quite brought things together in his chase career overall however and the 10-year-old may be worth passing on.

Kavanagh’s Corner

There has been good form in recent action from Kavanagh’s Corner. He claimed a win for trainer Henry De Bromhead at Thurles just earlier this month.

That course win puts him in very good stead for this contest and it adds to a Clonmel success earlier this season.

Kavanagh’s Corner has been in the places in five of his last six runners and is now 2-6 under De Bromhead. So he’s going along nicely and his recent success at the venue saw him beat Crazyheart.

Plenty of appeal is there at 7/1 on Kavanagh’s Corner* (odds taken from Boylesports at 17:05 GMT on Friday, 20th March 2020).

Pound A Stroke

The eight-year-old has won at Thurles before, he is also a distance winner elsewhere. He brings winning form to the table after a score at Clonmel in early March this year.

That was a really fresh step from him as he was in blinkers for the first time too. He keeps those on. It will be interesting to see how he handles the bigger field after he was one of six in that Clonmel trip.

Pound A Stroke is unexposed at the distance, but there is potential there with the current form at 8/1* (odds taken from Boylesports at 17:05 GMT on Friday, 20th March 2020).

Crayzheart

Crazyheart was recently beaten at the venue by Kavanagh’s Corner in chase action earlier this month. He put in a very decent effort and is likely to produce another.

Crazyheart has that consistency about him and will bring decent place claims. He is lacking that winning touch for the season, however, so is probably not one to heavily consider for the win in this competitive company in a big field.

Worthy Mentions

WESTERN SEA was last in action at Thurles in chase action earlier this month. He took a third-place finish there, behind Kavanagh’s Corner and Crazyheart. No winning form recently, but getting in the money isn’t unrealistic.

There was a food fourth from AT YOUR EASE behind Kavanagh’s Corner earlier this month. The seven-year-old stayed on really well in the race. Conditions weren’t totally in his favour behind then. He claimed a win at Limerick in November last year and good ground could put him in the picture.

BRIDGE NATIVE, a former course winner, has been very solid and consistent with his recent form. He has taken a win and two-place finishes in his four trips this year. After another decent effort in a 2m 5f chase at Leopardstown recently, his chances can’t be dismissed.

Predictions & Tips

KAVANAGH’S CORNER lines up as our pick for this one. Having scored at the course and distance impressively earlier this month, he has to be in contention. He will be taking on an extra 6lb but that should not deter him.

TRUMPS ACE does show up with the form and has plenty of appeal behind him. He has after all secured back to back impressive wins. But he takes on a 9lb rise which should dial him back a little bit. He’s easily strong enough to get in the money, however.

There has to be e/w claims for AT YOUR EASE after a very good, competitive showing with a fourth behind Kavanagh’s Corner recently and will be in better shape following that contest.
