There was a win for him on his last run, which was at Musselburgh 12 days ago. It was on his debut for his new yard as well.

Fire Away comes in well under the weights here even with a 7lb penalty following that win.

It was a supremely comfortable win that he took at Musselburgh and could have a big say in this one.

Another of the key players in this field is likely to be ADMIRAL BARRATRY.

He got himself a very good course and distance win in his latest run. That success means that he has a 5lb bump in the ratings which looks very fair.

That success was on his second chase effort and there should be a lot to follow from him.

In October he scored a good 3m handicap chase victory here and on his two follow ups has placed well.

This will be his first run on the flat for a good 18 months. But he was in jumps action 15 days ago, comfortably getting a score in a Wincanton hurdle.

There’s been enough about the 10-year-old over the hurdles recently to expect him to be pushing for a place in the money spots.

IVAQUESTION piques some interest as well after a good second palace finish in a field of 13 at Kempton a month ago.

That continued some nice consistent form from him.

Ivaquestion picked up a win at Kempton back in September and should enter calculations.

The other for the shortlist here in this wide-open race is LYRICA’S LION.

He gets the cheekpieces on for the first time here as he looks to end a winless streak that goes back to 2018.

He will be looking to build on a runner up finish at Plumpton last month.

Based on that form, if he is back anywhere near that, then he should be firmly in the mix.

Kap Auteuil looked to take a big step forward in this sphere with that Plumpton effort so needs to be respected.

MOTHRAABET made his chase debut in the autumn and looked quite promising at Kelso in it.

He has had a recent bumper effort under his belt in which he was by no means disgraced with a fifth-place finish.

ORGANISED SOLUTION is going to be the other runner for the shortlist.

He has won three pointers here at Fakenham and that has to be taken into consideration.

He comes into his chase debut here and it’s his first action since a wind op. The hood goes on for the first time as well and is worth keeping an eye on.

We can understand that as there is bound to be a further improvement from him after he scored at Catterick last time out.

There was some good jumping form shown by him on the day and he stayed on well too. Quick Wave looks to be the pick of the field in this one.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see VINTAGE CLOUDS make his presence felt in this one.

This will be the first run for the 11-year-old following wind surgery. There was a fifth-place finish from him last time out in a chase at Warwick at 3m in November.

He has slipped down the ratings and is down in grade now, so could feature.

DUC DE GRISSAY is another to watch in this one as he looks to recover after a fall at Borders national here at Kelso in December.

He looked well in contention though before taking a fall at the last. There was a course and distance win for him in March last year.

He has to be right about there as a big threat to the favourite.

He is on the hunt for a double after scoring at Haydock last month. That was a first success for his for his new yard and takes on 9lb for the victory.

There has been good form from him this season and Serious Ego has plenty in hand as well at Haydock to suggest that he handles the rise.

MINELLA CHARMER has been away for a long time, just like most of the other players in this field have been.

It’s been well over a year for him since his last run after missing 2020 entirely.

Still, he disappeared on the back of two straight handicap hurdles wins, 9 months apart.

CORRIBEN REIVER collected a win on his last run which was in October 2019. He has been away from all action since then.

But his opening mark for this handicap looks fair enough based on his past form.

This is a strange race with so few of the main players having had a recent run. So Corriben Reiver has some claims.

There have been three wins in his last four runs and naturally looks like a very strong player for this one. It’s worth noting that he is a three-time C&D winner as well.

Requinto Dawn was most recently seen seven days ago at course and distance when he strolled to a victory by more than 4 lengths. A 5lb penalty may not slow him up.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

SCALE FORCE is another of the big-form players in this one. He too is carrying a 5lb penalty for a recent score.

That came here at Southwell 10 days ago at the 5f trip.

But Scale Force was keeping on there as well, so the move back up in trip is likely to be played to his strengths.

The final selection is LORD OBERON who delighted loyal backers with a win here over 7f last time out.

That was earlier this month and finally, he put together all the potential that he has.

There was no need for him to be at his best to get that win, but place claims are certainly there.
