Today’s horse racing tips take a look at the top action that is happening to kick off the brand new year.

We have selections from Exeter, Musselburgh and Southwell, with, unfortunately, the meeting at Cheltenham being abandoned for the day.

But still, we are left with plenty of exciting horse racing betting action to get stuck into and we have a mix of jumps and flat fixtures to look at.

She will be seeking a hattrick as she steps into action on New Year’s Day.

It’s two from two over the hurdles from her. The latest of those wins was over course and distance just a couple of weeks ago.

This will be her first attempt at the handicapping and there looks to stack more to come from her. Pure Bliss is shortlisted material.

SEXY LOT is right there in terms of progress and potential as well. She’s been banging out one positive result after another this season.

Sexy Lot just missed out on a hattrick on her last run. She was beaten into second place at Hereford, despite a solid performance for trainer David Pipe.

Her wins happened at Ffos Las and Chepstow. Sexy Lot is highly demanding respect.

The other that could have a strong hand in this race is MISTY BLOOM. She was third last time out to a very progressive winner.

But regardless of that, Misty Bloom made a bold return to form and looks good enough to push on further. She was a dual winner last season and there are easy place claims here.

The race favourite for this one is WESTEND STORY but only narrowly at 4/1* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill). On her reappearance for the season, she took a tumble over course and distance.

That was in early December and she has never looked totally settled over the fences. Westend Story still has mistakes in her jumping game over the big stuff.

But any kind of clean round could get her close in this one. She was travelling well before her fall here last time out.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

FLY TO MARS is going to be the stronger option for us in horse racing betting at 9/2* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill).

He made a belated return to action at Aintree in December. That was after 21 months away.

He is, of course, expected to be a lot sharper with that run in the bag. He comes into chasing now as an intriguing player.

There have been some consistent performances from LIMITED RESERVE this season, so he is worth a look. He gets the cheekpieces on for the first time and carries at 3lb conditional.

He’ll be at home in the mud and claimed a third-place over course and distance last time out, despite never threatening the winner.

Here we are at a minimum distance for this Southwell fixture. GIORGIOBBO is the current 9/4 market leader* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill). He was at course and distance just three days ago.

He finished well down the field. But in his penultimate race, he went close here over this trip. He hasn’t won anywhere since 2018. Giorgiobbo does look to be one of the stronger players in this field.

Our selection for the race is DARK SHOT at 5/1 which we just can’t pass on* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill).

He is 2lb down from his last winning mark. Why he gets the nod is that he has had a couple of credible runs at course and distance in his last few starts in December.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN was second over course and distance on his last run of the previous season. He then went on to claim another runner up spot at Lingfield a few days ago on his return to action.

So with that run under his belt, there should be decent enough claims coming in from him to get in the frame.

Heading up the market for this handicap chase is ASK ME EARLY at 2/1* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill). There was a win for him last time out, which was his second effort of the season.

That was on his chase debut as well at Chepstow around a month ago. That score at Chepstow came after a couple of nice trips over the hurdles. Ask Me Early had been sent up 6lb for that chasing debut as well.

Having won a couple of point efforts last year as well, he should firmly be in the picture for this trip. He could be the one to beat.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

HOLD THAT TAUGHT is another of the big players in this field. There has been a couple of good runs from him this season already.

Both runs this season have been novice handicap chases and Hold That Thought has gotten himself in the frame in both. He has every chance of ending up in the places again.

MR CLARKSON is well worth a look in this one. He was flying at Taunton three weeks ago on his latest effort. But then he lost his rider a couple from home.

A clean round of jumping and he’s right there in the frame, especially if he’s as game as he was then. We think there’s value there at 15/2* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill).

NATIVE ROBIN is the 3/1 market leader at the moment for this contest* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill). He delivered a win at Wincanton in his penultimate run and has been showing rapid improvement.

Native Robin followed up that win with a solid second place at the same venue in December. He looks for all the world to be heading in the right direction and should be well in the mix at the business end of this.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

TUDORS TREASURE is interesting as he scored here at course and distance back in March. He is only 1lb higher than he was for his last run, which was back here at Exeter as well.

That ended in a third palace finish for him, so he likes the track does the 10-year-old. Tudors Treasure probably has enough to get in the mix.

IVILNOBLE may be worth a look as well after taking third place in a competitive handicap chase at Plumpton just over three weeks ago.

There should be something to build on from that as he comes back into action. That was a nice bit of form that he produced in that latest run.

He hasn’t managed to get one done yet after his move to David Skelton. Romain De Senam has a decent enough chance of entering the calculations in this one, but we think that’s worth taking on because he has looked a shadow of himself this term.

Our tip for the race is going to be RETURN TICKET at 8/1* (betting odds recorded 2031 GMT on Thursday, 31st December 2020 at William Hill).

He posted a win on his latest run, which was at a 2m distance here at Musselburgh. That was his reappearance and his first since wind surgery. So the op could have left him a much-improved prospect.

The final section in today’s horse racing betting is going to be COOL MIX who has had a good season so far. Four races into the campaign he has taken a win and three-place finishes. So his bang there at the moment. He was third from this same mark at Newcastle last time out in November.
