The race favourite for this opening race of Monday’s horse racing preview is NOT A ROLE MODEL at 3/1* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

He will be looking to secure a double in current form.

He secured a handicap chase success at Wincanton back in November on his last run. So he is making the switch back to the hurdles and is 1lb lower.

Given that strong showing last time, winning at Wincanton by more than two lengths, there are obvious claims here.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

PARICOLOR piques big interest at 9/2 though* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

He has won his last three runs and the conditions are likely going to be in his favour. That hattrick was over the hurdles. Paricolor makes the move back to handicapping, but this could be within his scope.

SHANTUNG has been coming along nicely as well this season having had three credible runs under her belt.

Last time out she was brought down to the 2m trip and that didn’t suit her at all at Southwell. So Shantung should be a big player back up at this distance.

ANISOPTERA is the current 6/4 favourite for this race* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

She finished off last year in style, winning her final two runs.

The last of those was 51 days ago when she scored over course and distance in a 14-runner handicap. So that means huge claims are there as she reappears.

There is likely going to be a very bold effort from her here.

Anisoptera has come on leaps and bounds since entering the handicapping and taking on extra distance. There looks to be room in the rating yet for her to go further.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

GOLD STANDARD should be a player in this one as well. He gets the cheek pieces on for the first time in this one.

The last win that he put on the board was a victory here at Lingfield back in December.

Gold Standard followed that up a couple of weeks ago over course and distance and claimed a good second place. Gold Standard’s not likely to be far away.

FIGEAC poses a threat as well. His last run was just over two weeks ago and he claimed fourth there.

It wasn’t a race that suited him the way that it played out at Wolverhampton. But he is a strong player and well worth keeping an eye on in the market.

Heading up the market for this interesting mares’ handicap chase is EPISODE at 9/4* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

She was a runner up on her last trip, which was over course and distance.

The tongue-tie goes on and she did have Achy Breaky Heart behind her in that last run. Episode has fallen to a very workable mark and she looks close to delivering a good score.

If she is anywhere near the kind of form that she went with last time, she should get very close despite a 2lb rise.

FLORELLA comes into her handicap debut for this one after struggling under rules so far.

So the handicapping may offer her a little bit of a breather and may interest at 16/1 each-way* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

MISS ZIP is an interesting one in the field here as well. It hasn’t been in the greatest of form this season, but she is on a very good looking mark for this one.

Last season she rattled off a hattrick at the end of the campaign. The blinkers go back on and she could be in the frame.

He was in action on Plumpton on Sunday, claiming a win there, so he is unlikely to post.

So TERRAFIRMA LADY could be the way to go as she is thrown in handicapping for a tougher test.

The last run that she had saw her take a third-place finish in a novice hurdle at Wincanton last month.

That was a very good run that she produced there and handicapping is likely to project her further.

GANG WARFARE could have a say in this fixture as well after picking up a very good second place on his reappearance run.

He was second at Catterick only to the excellent Airgead Suas from a mark of 80/1.

So he defied some long odds there with a quality effort. If Gang Warfare could find a way to build on that then some claims are there.

He signed off last season with a win under his belt, showing plenty of promise at Catterick for that one.

There is a big old rise of 11lb that he is dealing with for this one.

But it was such a comfortable win that he took, he looks something of an obvious danger as he comes back into action for the first time this season.

CATBIRD SEAT looks to be a player in this field as well. He landed a win in a field of 11 at Wolverhampton a month ago.

There is a 3lb rise that he deals with coming back as he makes the move to polytrack. This is a tougher fixture for him, but Catbird Seat has reasonable claims.

We are going to roll with CASA LOUPI as our selection at 4/1* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

He has been bombing along brilliantly and scored a win at Kempton 19 days ago. There is only a 2lb rise for him and we think he can just get there.

SHIMMERING DAWN picked up a victory in a minor Lingfield event last time out which was just over two weeks ago.

That was at distance and was the second win in six runs last season.

It was a pretty facile win though, not being challenged.

Shimmering Day is highly rated and sets the standard easily in this fixture at 11/10* (betting odds recorded 18:25 GMT on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 at William Hill).

The closest threat to SHIMMERING DAWN that we can see is AMNIARIX. She will be looking to secure a hattrick as she comes back into action.

She is a former course and distance winner and on her last run scored at kempton a month ago. Aminiarix had plenty to spare. Can she close the gap on Shimmering Dawn though?

AMBER ISLAND may be the best of the rest in this field. She won a month ago on her latest run, which was at course and distance.

She was well positioned in that fixture to get her victory. More is going to be needed of her here though, but place claims are there.
