Today’s horse racing tips look at one of the big national hunt weekends that is on the calendar.

It’s largely all eyes on Ascot on Saturday for the running of the 2021 Long Walk Hurdle (Grade 1).

That is the big highlight of the day. We look at that one, plus make some picks from other races on that Ascot card.

The rest of the tips for horse racing betting today come from Haydock and Lingfield.

So here are the best of today’s horse racing tips for Saturday, 18th December 2021.

All times listed are GMT.

DANNY WHIZZBANG is expected to come along strongly and at the same time make amends for a poor show last time out.

In his novice campaign, Danny Whizzbang claimed a Grade 2 success. But he never quite pushed on from there.

He was sorely lacking in the Ladbrokes Trophy on his latest. But he could be better for it.

PENCILFULLOFLEAD should have big claims. He was terrific last season, really coming along over the fences.

The pick of his chasing efforts was a Grade 2 win at Punchestown.

He makes his return on Saturday and has to defy a long absence, but a bold effort is expected.

L’HOMME PRESSE picked up a win on his reappearance run just a couple of weeks ago. That was a good score and landed at Exeter in a handicap. That is two wins in his last three and he can get in this.

The final shortlist selection is MESSIRE DES OBEAUX. He won his first two efforts over the hurdles at Wincanton and one of those was at Grade 2.

He should have claimed a chase win at Wetherby on his latest in March but pulled up. He’s not without a chance with a clear run.

Tip: L’HOMME PRESSE 4/1

Ones to watch: Penciflulloflead 7/4, Measure Des Obeaux 3/1

PALMERS HILL will probably feature strongly on the weekend if he runs true to form.

There was a big effort for him last time out.

In that Palmers Hill took a win at Wetherby with plenty of room to spare.

He may be well worth a look before the handicapper catches up with him.

SULLY D’OC AA gets on the shortlist. He may well have gone close last time out where he took on a run here at Ascot.

But a mistake knocked him back after he was travelling well. He has enough to be in the frame.

DIEGO DU CHARMIL is the other shortlist for this one. He takes a drop of 3lb in the ratings following a fifth palace finish at Ascot a month ago.

He has won before at Aintree and while he has been on a little dip, that latest effort was encouraging.

Others to consider in this field are GUY and KNIGHT IN DUBAI who can’t be totally ruled out with clean rounds.

Tip: SULLY D’OC AA 13/2

Ones to watch: Palmers Hill 7/2, Diego Du Charmil 7/1

THYME HILL should feature strongly in the Long Walk on Saturday as he took on some tough challenges last season.

That included getting touched off in last year’s edition of this one.

But he did bag the Aintree Stayers’ Hurdle on his follow up in April.

Thyme Hill has had a reappearance under his belt, taking an underwhelming fight at Auteuil in a Grade 1.

There was not much to his liking in that one and should be able to push on now.

RONALD PUMP is not to be written out of this one.

He took a good second place at Fairyhouse three weeks ago, showing a strong return to form.

The great PAISLEY PARK is back in the mix for this one, having won this event twice before. I

t has been back to back third-place finishes from him this season.

That includes a finish in that opposition at the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury three weeks ago behind Thomas Darby.

Paisley Park has yet to hit his peak this season but can’t be counted out.

CHAMP may be worth a look as well for the shortlist. He has been away since a poor run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. The switch back to the hurdles may help as he is a talented one.

Tip: THYME HILL 13/8

Ones to watch: Rondal Pump 7/2, Paisley Park 8/1

BELAMI DES PICTONS took an encouraging fourth-place finish at Bangor on his reappearance a month ago.

His previous form should put him in the frame.

CARIBEAN BOY never threatened at Cheltenham in a handicap on his reappearance a month ago.

He gets the cheekpieces for the first time on Saturday and is capable of making his presence felt.

ANNSAM has gone well in a couple of hurdles this season.

If his jump game stands up over the fences, then he could well have a shot at this as he was starting to put things together in some chase efforts last season.

CLOTH CAP couldn’t defend his Ladbrokes Trophy crown at Newbury three weeks ago.

He got his race wrong there, doing too much too soon. He came on leaps and bounds last season and the drop in grade puts him right in his one.

The final shortlist selection is GRAND SANCY who was back in good shape last time out in a Newbury handicap. A better jumping show could put him in the thick of it.

Tip: ANNSAM 15/2

Ones to watch: Cloth Cap 8/1, Caribbean Boy 15/2

FELIX is a former course and distance winner and was at C&D on his latest effort. That was a month ago when he finished third to Pyledriver in a Listed fixture.

He has found himself in the frame a lot this season but is just missing that winning touch. Felix can’t be ruled out.

UNITED FRONT is sitting on a hattrick chance and he is a former course and distance winner as well.

The biggest of those was on his latest at Chelmsford City 9 days ago. United Front is well worth a look as he comes back up on a trip.

DUBAI WARRIOR is another that knows his way around Lingfield with three-course and distance wins behind him. He wasn’t ideally placed at C&D behind Felix on his latest.

The final shortlist selection is GARDE PARADISE who has won three of her last four.

She claimed a wide-margin success at Kempton on her latest and the useful filly can find herself involved.

Tip: UNITED FRONT 6/1

Ones to watch: Dubai Warrior 6/1, Felix 5/2

There’s a high-quality field out for this one. NO ORDINARY JOE should be right in the thick of things.

He opened the season with back to back wins, claiming those in novice hurdles in the summer.

On his latest, he took on the Greatwood at Cheltenham and didn’t get his race plan right at all, but still took third. No Ordinary Joe rates as a danger.

WEST CORK hasn’t been out of the top two in any of his last six races, winning three of his last four.

He was the winner of the Greatwood at Chelston a month ago. That was fresh from an absence of 631 days.

West Cork comes up 7lb but arrives at Ascot with massive claims on Saturday.

SAMARRIVE looks like a promising type. It’s been three wins from four career efforts so far.

The latest of those was on a 2m trip at Sandown and came up 11lb for a tougher race. Place claims have to be there if it brings further progress to the table.

The final shortlisted one in this fixture is GARRY CLERMONT who was a runner up at course and distance a month ago.

He missed a chance at a double there because of a small mistake. But he is firmly going in the right direction and we can make his presence felt.

Tip: WEST CORK 6/1

Ones to watch: No Ordinary Joe 4/1, Garry Clermont 12/1

NINA THE TERRIER is probably going to be very well supported to get back on track after taking a tumble at Newbury three weeks ago.

She likely would have gone on to take runner-up in that contest as she was once again, going very well.

That was a bid for a four-timer having picked up a hattrick with a win in a Newbury novice. Nina The Terrier is a big player.

HAUTE ESTIME could get back on track with the help of the extra trip that is in front of her on the weekend.

She picked up a win at Kelso on her penultimate run, which was her first go at the hurdles.

She wasn’t quite as good on her follow up, but there’s been plenty of encouragement there.

CURRENT MOOD opened the season with back to back wins, and both of those came in good fashion as well.

She was tried among Graded company where she couldn’t quite get the money, but this trip looks ideal for her.

Tip: NINA THE TERRIER 6/5

Ones to watch: Current Mood 3/1, Haute Estime 9/1
