Today’s horse racing betting opens with a 2m maiden hurdle and one of the big players could be LAVORANTE.

He is coming into his reappearance after having last been seen at Fontwell in March.

There was some reasonable form there from him bumpers earlier this year and could improve further to take this.

HE’S A KNOWALL won a point effort on his one previous outing.

That victory was secured very easily and could make his presence felt in his first attempt under rules.

BOMBS AWAY will be the other that gets on the shortlist in this one. There was a runner up finish for him on his debut.

That was in a tough test of speed at Southwell on the flat, and Bombs Away comes into Sunday’s action for his first go over the hurdles.

Tip: LAVORANTE 4/1

Ones to watch: Bombs Away 2/1, He’s A Knowall 11/2

There were some big efforts by HUDSON DE GRUGY who scored twice over course and distance last season.

That was towards the end of the season before he signed off with another strong effort to take a third-place finish at Newbury.

Hudson De Grugy was wonderfully progressive last term and should kick on.

ON TO VICTORY is a good versatile one who did claim a couple of hurdles successes last season.

He arrives sharp after having had a spin on the flat a couple of months ago.

On To Victory switches back to the timbers and looks to be on the kind of mark from which he should launch a bold challenge.

In this competitive handicap hurdle, WILL STING is another who should make his presence felt.

That was a fifth at Stratford in March on his latest run.

He was on the up since being moved into handicapping last season and is 2lb down on his return.

Tip: HUDSON DE GRUGY 2/1

Ones to watch: On To Victory 9/4, Will Sting 11/2

LE TUEUR could have a good season ahead of him in chasing. A year ago he picked up a course and distance win on his handicap hurdle.

Le Tueur stayed in good shape in his following three races, going close the last twice.

He should bring enough to get heavily involved on Sunday.

LEN BRENNAN was fourth at Cheltenham when he made his reappearance last month. So he should strip a little fitter for that effort.

This represents a drop in grade for him as well after that amateurs’ handicap chase.

If he can build on that then he is weighted to go well on the weekend.

The final shortlist selection is GATS AND CO who has started to show well.

He picked up a win on his reappearance run and then was sent to the fences for the first time in a hunter chase at Stratford.

There was a good effort from him in that one back in May, taking a third-place finish.

There should be a lot more to come from him.

Tip: GATS AND CO 8/1

Ones to watch: Len Brennan 4/1, Le Tueur 4/1

APACHE CREEK signed off in fine style last season with a hattrick of hurdles wins.

Following that he pushed forward and took a runner up spot here at Ffos Las.

That was back in the summer and has been away since May.

Apache Creek comes up 4lb for his return as he pushed up to a three-mile distance. He rates as a big danger.

BELLS OF PETERBORO was another that was in fine fettle last season.

He massively improved in handicap and delivered a win on his final appearance in easy fashion.

That was on a 3m trip at Chepstow in April.

So Bells Of Peterboro has some very nice from behind him but will have to defy a career-high mark to get another on the board in this one.

TO BE SURE is worth considering again.

There was a handicap chase victory for him in March at Hereford.

He looked like he needed his reappearance run at Newton Abbot on a return to the hurdles.

Following that on his last three weeks ago To Be Sure took a tumble here at course and distance. He’s still worth keeping on side.

Tip: BELLS OF PETERBORO 9/2

Ones to watch: Apache Creek 9/4, To Be Sure 8/1

DESQUE DE L’ISLE has not been seen for nine months. There were some very positive results from him last term.

Desque De L’isle took back to back wins last season, the latest of those came at Lingfield a year ago and was third on a follow up at this venue.

He could pull his way into the picture on his reappearance as his yard is in form and so could have him nicely tuned up.

WHOSHOTWHO hasn’t won for a long time now. It’s been sixteen without him having put on the board.

But he has laid down some much-improved form the last two times.

Given that this is not a particularly strong race, Whoshotwho looks very well treated in the handicap to get close to snapping this streak.

The final shortlist selection is SABBATHICAL who did pick up a chase victory at Carlisle earlier this year.

That was in March and hasn’t followed it up the last twice. But there were potentially excuses there and Sabbatical is worth considering.

Tip: SABBATHICAL 6/1

Ones to watch: Desque De L’isle 4/1, Whoshotwho 10/3

This is one of the more competitive races of the day with a big operator THE GRAND VISIR getting on the shortlist.

He was fighting on his handicap hurdles debut at Aintree a couple of weeks ago. The Grand Visir is a very good stayer and should have this in him.

The unexposed OTTOMAN STYLE picked up a win on his debut, showing a lot of promise in an Irish point.

Then he went into a break during which he had a breathing operation.

There were positives from him when he was third in a maiden hurdle at Fontwell three weeks ago.

Ottoman Style should have strong claims on his return and be stripping fitter.

BOWTOGREATNESS looks to have a chance on his reappearance run. This will be his hurdles debut as well.

There was a decent run from him in December when he rattled the crossbar at Warwick.

Bowtogreatness followed up poorly on his follow up run, but after a break, he brings each-way claims.

Tip: OTTOMAN STYLE 11/4

Ones to watch: The Grand Visir 5/6, Bowtogreatness 4/1
