This is a good strong contest and AMETIST looks like being a key contender in this as the 5/4 favourite* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill).

He has kicked on further this season for Willie Haggas, winning his two runs for the campaign. The latest of those was on the old course at Newmarket and he held on well at the end of that.

Given that Ametist has only been handed a 3lb rise, we expected him to be back in this. He just looks to be going from strength to strength at the moment.

FOX CHAMPION needs to be respected after a run at the Victoria Cup at Ascot last month. He was well out of his depth in that one however and he has been dipping down the weights.

The other to keep onside for the shortlist is going to be ON A SESSION who has had a fairly decent season. He carries an in-form apprentice helping him out with 3lb.

On A Session was last seen at Epsom this trip and did not run well, but still took third.

The current favourite ALABAMA BOY certainly brings some big claims to the table in this one.

He is the current 15/8 market leader in horse racing odds* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill).

Since the move to handicapping he has unleashed some fantastic form and is in with a chance at completing a hattrick. There has been just a 3lb rise for him after a win at this venue 42 days ago.

He looked comfortable and strong in that, suggesting that there is, even more, to come on the horizon from him.

We think that 9/1 shot CRACKLING is well worth a look in this one* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill) The lightly-raced five-year-old has been away from action since February.

But in that last run, she scored a good win on the all-weather at Lingfield in a 5-runner field. That was a career-best and it will be interesting to see what he is capable of coming in fresh.

He was third on his latest run, trying to back up a win on the Rowley Mile on his penultimate effort.

We are going to chance a return to form for ARTISTIC RIFLES in his Newcastle trip on Thursday.

He is a current 11/2 quote as a horse racing tip in a competitive field* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill).

Artistic Rifles snatched back to back wins this season on 1m handicap tips at Doncaster and Ripon. In search of a hat-trick, he went to York.

MABDAA warrants a look in this one at a quote of 6/1* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill).

He picked up a win on his latest run, earning the win at Redcar in a big field. That was just over three weeks ago.

Mandala has only been hit with a 3lb rise which looks fair enough. So that means we think he stays well in contention as he seeks a double.

Others in the field that also warrant a look at MILITARY MAN and TREVOLI.

The former was third on his reappearance, taking a step forward perhaps to finally shaking off his maiden tag and he does stay at the same mark.

TREVOLI hasn’t been pounced on by the handicapper either after a narrow win at Beverley last month. So he gets on the shortlist as well.

We have to roll with the 6/4 favourite WISE JUDGMENT as a horse racing tip in this fixture* (betting odds recorded 21:55 GMT on June 23rd 2021 at William Hill).

She is under a 6lb penalty after scoring on her reappearance run just 9 days ago.

That was in a field of 9 at Beverley where she was given a very good ride. There is a decent chance of a follow up now.

Wise Judgement largely dominated that fixture once recovering from a slow start in the fixture.

CELTIC EMPRESS picked up a course and distance in on her penultimate run. She had another attempt in her next race but came up short with a third-place finish.

She does, however, look as if she has more progress to come. The other one for the shortlist is going to be FINALLY MINE.

She comes down on the trip and she gets the blinkers on for the first time after back-to-back fourth-place finishes.

Earlier this month she got a course and distance win under her belt, continuing in some very strong consistent form for the season.

The handicapper has only thrown 2lb extra at her for the ratings, so that would be manageable as she seeks a follow-up.

JAMES WATT was a winner on his latest run as well. That was at Ripon three weeks ago and now he comes up 4lb for that success. Place claims are there, but overall form this season has not been as strong as that of Venture Flame’s.

The other for the shortlist is ECONOMIC CRISIS who has produced back to back second-place finishes. She looks as if she has another good run in her as she comes up 4lb in the ratings.
