He is on the hunt for a hat-trick after having had a brilliant season.

His last two scores have been at Uttoxeter and Doncaster and he has bolted up in both of them.

Shanty Alley has taken a bold approach to his game recently so he has a decent chance at landing that hattrick, but this is a stiffer contest.

SHANTOU FLYER makes his first appearance for Paul Nicholls.

He has been away from the best part of a year, but the 11 year old still probably retains some of that ability that has been on display throughout his career.

There’s a 7lb claimer on his back to help out a bit.

He has claimed a win in five of his last six reappearance runs over the hurdles.

OXWICH BAY should be another of the key contenders in this fixture.

He has taken back to back second-place finishes in his current form for trainer Evan Williams.

He scored over the fences in July last year at Newton Abbot and has to be a big threat on a return to this sphere now.

We would have to consider DARKSIDEOFTARNSIDE as a player in the contest as well.

He was last seen five weeks ago when he was back in form to claim a second-place at Warwick.

This is a big jump up in distance for him. He has the cheekpieces on and place claims look solid.

There was a second-place finish for Stormy Flight on his last effort which was at the same mark.

So that suggests that he is going to be in the mix for this one.

He wasn’t let loose all the way on his latest run which was at Exeter where he found only the progressive Bear Ghylls too good.

So there should be a little more in the tank.

BROKEN QUEST is thriving at the moment and could feature strongly.

He is in with a chance of a hattrick as he returns to action after about a month away.

He is a really strong traveller but he is coming down on a trip here. But he may well be versatile enough to get very close on this shorter trip.

ZAFAR was fourth on his latest outing which was at Fontwell three weeks ago.

That was a marked improvement over the run that he had produced on his reappearance.

So that was a notable step forward from him and he was useful in this sphere back in the 2018/19 season.

With a 3lb claimer, Zafar could place claims.

He has produced some fine form this season, opening the campaign with a second-place finish.

But then he improved even further to score on his follow up.

That latest effort for Lion’s Vigil was over course and distance nine days ago.

There is the extra of a 5lb penalty that he has to deal with, but the strong claims are certainly there.

RESTIVE should also have a good say in the contest after a fourth-place finish on his reappearance a month ago.

A couple of things to note about his chances is that he is down in trip and he has the cheekpieces back on.

Restive is a former course and distance winner and with that latest run being a good one here, he piques interest.

DREW BREEZE picked up a win on his first run of the new year back in January. That was an 11f success here at Southwell.

That was in a field of 11. This will be his first go on the fibresand and is lightly raced.

ONEBABA looks a lighter better option as he jumps up 5lb after scoring recently at course and distance.

That’s three wins for him already this year and he just was staying on so well in that recent effort.

ARCHIMEDES was fourth behind ONEBABA at the course and distance nine days ago.

He enjoys a run out at Southwell having won four times on the fibresand here before in his career.

There has been enough recent form from him to suggest that place claims are reasonable.

JAZZ LEGEND is the other for the shortlist in this contest.

He is a four-time course and distance winner and was fifth in that field of nine to Onebaba nine days ago.

That was not the best of efforts from him, a slight dispiriting run after having scored in his penultimate fixture.

GALLIC GEORDIE earned a win on his latest run, scoring at Lingfield in December.

That was not only on his handicap and chase debut, it was also after a year away from the action. It was an excellent opening form from him.

KHAIRAGASH was at Warwick at the end of 2021 on his most recent effort.

That was a 2m trip in which he took fourth place, but was never in the frame to collect the win.

He needs to bounce back a little bit after that but could be a key player if he does that.

MAN OF THE NORTH could feature well in this one after getting a score at Bangor on his last run.

It will be interesting to see if he can back that up.

It was an excellent show of stamina from him in that one, which was his second effort in this sphere.

The final selection LICKPENNNY LARRY piques a little bit of interesting as he gets the cheekpieces on for the first time.

He may need them after a disappointing last effort.

That’s not usual for him to be so off-key. But he is the type strong enough to respond.
