Today’s horse racing tips for Thursday return to a mix of national hunt and flat racing.

The planned Musselburgh meeting has been abandoned, but the cards at Ffos Las, Southwell and Wolverhampton all go ahead as it stands.

There’s some excellent chase and hurdles action from Ffos Las to dig into and that is where most of today’s horse racing tips will come from

Race Favourite

The race favourite for this trip is BEN BRODY at 5/6* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill).

He will be looking to follow up on a score that he dug out in the mud at Warwick last week.

Ben Brody takes on a 7lb penalty for that score which was on a 2m trip. But he’s still well inside the handicap for this class 5 fixture.

So he should be a big threat and should firmly enter calculations.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

ASTRA VIA took a win at Sedgefield recently to get on the radar. That was on her third run of the season for Evan Williams.

It wasn’t the strongest of races that she got that first chase success in and takes on 5lb extra because of the victory. But, likely, she is still going to be there or thereabouts.

The final section of the shortlist in this race will be NO QUARTER ASKED. He needs to shrug off a below-par effort at Hereford on his first go over the fences.

That was two races ago and he followed up with another go over the hurdles last time out.

He looks like he’s trying to find his range, but looks ones of the stronger place claim options.

MERE ANARCHY is 4/1 market leader for this contest* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill).

He will be looking for his first score of the season after having taken back to back second place finished.

On his latest run, Mere Anarchy was runner up in a handicap hurdle at Chepstow 48 days ago.

He was well ahead of the rest of the field in that one and is likely to bring a bold bid. He probably won’t be too far away in this one on his return.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

SAN SEB worked well with what he had in a Wincanton handicap last time out. That was just over three weeks ago when he claimed a third place finish in that competitive race.

So the six-year-old could have enough to step forward a little more and push for place claims.

The other of interest will be HOWLING MILAN who is dropping down in grade now after a difficult season so far. He’s going to level out soon and from a competitive market now, he could feature.

This will be his first run since the end of November in a Class 2 contest, so this is a sizable drop in quality of opposition he’s up against.

SAMOVAR was in action on Sunday when he was a close second-place finisher over course and distance.

He makes a quick return here as the 15/8 favourite* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill).

Samovar opened the season with a win and he is dealing with a 5lb penalty after the weekend’s close effort.

But still, he appears to be sitting on a very comfortable mark which puts him on the shortlist.

EXCESSABLE is going to be our selection at 10/3* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill).

He was last in action 18 days ago when he was third in a field of seven over course and distance.

With some very good form behind him in recent efforts, and being a former course and distance winner, he has big claims.

PEARL OF QATAR merits some consideration as well and she is another of the course and distance winners in this fixture.

She made a return to the tapeta at Newcastle 10 days ago when she took fourth place in a field of 13.

That was a fairly tough workout and with a furlong shaved off this time, we accept her to get in the frame.

MEMPHIS BELL is the 7/4 favourite currently for this run* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill). It has been a four-timer posted for her and more is still expected.

Memphis Bell is really on the up at the moment and scored on her latest effort which was in October last year.

There has been a jump of 8lb for the Evan Williams’ mare, but the seven-year-old doesn’t appear to have hit her peak yet in handicapping.

The extra trip coming for TIMETOROE on what is her handicap debut looks as if it could play to her strengths.

She did open the season with a score at Bangor in a maiden but has since struggled a bit. So the handicapping could happen at the right time to bring her into the picture.

The other for the shortlist will be MISS JEANNE MOON who collected a victory on her reappearance run for the season. That was at Fontwell in November.

After a follow up a third-place finish at Hereford since she is heading in the right direction. She looks to have the extra trip well within her.

He has looked better and better on his switch to chasing after being nothing more than a modest hurdler.

So we expect a good show from Don Berbager in this one. The last run he had was in November when he was a beaten favourite in third place here at Ffos Las.

That was on a shorter trip and solid claims are there, albeit in what is a much stiffer test.

SANDFORD CASTLE gets the nod from us at 9/2* (betting odds recorded 17:47 GMT on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at William Hill).

There should be another good run coming after he scored under a penalty at Taunton in an extended 3m 2f effort last time out.

Some of the penalty is balanced out by a 7lb claimer.

MISTY MAI may be worth another look after unseating her rider last time out as she was hampered. She is still at a very nice mark though and we think she gets in the frame.

Misty Mai opened the season with a victory over course and distance and old form tempts.

He is in good consistent heart at the moment and he should pose a big threat up 2lb in the ratings.
