Thursday's best horse racing tips from Chepstow and Newcastle

It is mostly Chepstow all the way for today’s horse racing tips as we start to head towards the weekend.

Along with the national hunt action that we have coming up from the venue, we pull a couple of selections from Newcastle handicaps too.

So here are the best of today’s horse racing tips for Thursday, January 6th, 2022.

All times listed are GMT.

LLANTARA could have something to offer in this one as she looks to be entering the action on a threatening mark.

Her jumping form wasn’t great on her reappearance run a month ago. That was in a chase, so the switch to the hurdles may help her get back on track.

There were some promising handicap hurdles efforts by Llantara in the previous campaign.

LADY TREMAINE earned a victory on her latest run, which was a month ago at Bangor.

That was a slog through similarly heavy conditions, so she brings huge claims.

Lady Tremaine comes up 5lb now for that success, but with her stable in excellent form at the moment, she could prove to be the one to beat.

LETTIE LUTZ is another to watch for the shortlist in horse racing betting here.

She stepped into her handicap debut three weeks ago and was well held.

But Lettie Lutz comes down in distance and did make it into the frame on her first two attempts at the hurdles, one of them being at course and distance.

Tip: LANTARA 10/1

Ones to watch: Lettie Lutz 9/1, Lady Tremaine 13/8

MAHON POINT is a winning pointer and then on his first run for a new yard, put together an excellent run in a bumper here at Chepstow a month ago.

Mahon Point put in a strong finish to a credible third-place finish in that one. This will be his hurdles debut and he warrants some respect.

DOM OF MARY returned from a break of 10 months to put together a good run on his debut in this sphere three weeks ago.

That was a fourth-place finish from him at Newbury, settling well under a patient ride.

There could be a lot more to come from him after that experience.

CROSSING LINES is the other shortlisted one for horse racing betting. There were a couple of point wins for him in 2019.

He’s not run since then, so will have a huge absence of the best part of two years to defy.

But Crossing Lines is no forlorn hope and he will have first run for a new yard.

Tip: MAHON POINT 9/4

Ones to watch: Dom Of Mary 6/4, Crossing Lines 11/4

GALOP DE CHASSE will likely be very well supported on Thursday at Chepstow.

He finished superbly to claim a win on his national hunt debut 17 days ago, his first run in the UK as well.

That victory for Galop De Chasse happened in a handicap chase at Lingfield and returned with some big claims for a top yard.

CAN YOU CALL warrants some respect as he looks to get back on track following a fall at Hereford last time out.

That slip was a couple from home a month ago, on what was his second experience of chasing.

Had he completed, then Can You Call probably would have won. So he is a contender.

EARLY DU LEMO hasn’t been the most reliable of chasers, usually a bit hit and miss.

He was a faller eight days ago at Newbury as he struggled for fluency.

But if he gets a clear round in, then Early De Lemo goes from a mark which should firmly see him be competitive.

Tip: CAN YOU CALL 15/5

Ones to watch: Galop De Chasse 15/8, Early Du Lemo 6/1

HELLIOS ALLEN could have claims in this one after picking up a victory in November at course and distance.

He followed up with a third-place at Exeter a month ago.

Form from that one has been firmly franked, which should be Hellios Allen in the picture in this very competitive fixture.

CASWELL BAY is a former course and distance winner. He is below the winning mark that he took at C&D a couple of years ago.

There was a nice effort from him at Haydock on his reappearance three weeks ago but looked like he needed this step up in distance.

GARINCHA will be under a 7lb penalty for Thursday’s action at Chepstow.

That was recorded 11 days ago and the lightly raced winner could have a decent chance at a follow-up.

That win for Garincha was at Wetherby and it saw him shake off some relatively indifferent form. Backing up the performance is now the challenge.

JAUNTY VIKING scored at Ffos Las in a novice handicap hurdle last summer.

After a break since that June success, Jaunty Viking took a very credible third at Ludlow a couple of weeks ago. Further improvement should be there.

Tip: JAUNTY VIKING 12/1

Ones to watch: Garincha 10/3, Caswell Bay 6/1

DESTIN D’AJONC had a good reappearance effort under his belt three weeks ago, his first go since a wind op.

He should be better for that now and Destin D’Ajonc was a course and distance winner in February last year. Therefore he rates as a danger.

GEMIRANDE put on a good show 25 days ago with a second-place finish over the fences at Southwell.

That could be promising signs for his yard, as Gemirande has generally struggled for success since getting off the mark in the UK in late 2020.

BROKEN QUEST is another to keep an eye on in this one. He hasn’t hit the form over the fences that he did over the smaller stuff.

But there was a chase win for him last March and it’s been a little hit and miss since then. Place claims could be there, however.

THE MIGHTY ARC was let down by a poor finish a month ago at Doncaster in a chase effort.

The month before that he had taken a win on his chase/handicap debut at Worcester, so if he can tap into that, then The Mighty Arc could pose a threat.

Tip: DESTIN D’AJONC 4/1

Ones to watch: Gemirande 15/8, The Mighty Arc 10/3

DESERT EMPEROR is seeking to complete a hattrick when he goes at Newcastle on Thursday.

It’s been three wins in his last four runs, so there are obvious claims there.

While he is a specialist at Wolverhampton, he’s not to be dismissed in this one.

The latest of those wins happened at the other venue three weeks ago and Desert Emperor had plenty in the tank still.

SOCIETY RED brings good form to the table after a score at Wolverhampton 26 days ago.

That was under a very smart ride and it was a big improvement in his current form. Society Red is a former course and distance winner.

SIMPLE STAR was a winner at Beverly on his penultimate run and followed up with a respectable enough 6th place finish at Beverly in April last year.

It’s been a long break but looks the best of the rest.

Tip: DESERT EMPEROR 8/13

Ones to watch: Society Red 9/4, Simple Star 8/1

SPARTAN FIGHTER has won three of his last four runs and is a four-time winner at Newcastle to boot.

So the claims by him are pretty obvious. The latest of his wins was at the course and distance three weeks ago, showing a good attitude. Spartan Fighter sets the standard.

SIR MAXI was last in action three weeks ago taking a runner-up spot in a good race at Southwell.

He looks to be getting to a place where he can continue to be competitive. Sir Maxi comes up 2lb and has some claims.

SANAADH has failed to win in twelve efforts now, but is a three-time course and distance winner.

He was the last of four on a course and distance trip two weeks ago but never had a position to challenge from.

Tip: SPARTAN FIGHTER 13/8

Ones to watch: Sir Maxi 7/2, Sanaadh 9/2
