We have MAJESTIC MERLIN and FEARLESS FRACAS as the current joint 9/2 favourites* (betting odds recorded 20:16 GMT on Monday, 18th January 2021 at Bet365).

Majestic Merlin collected a second-place finish on his last run, which was in November last year at Wincanton.

That was his handicap debut and it was a much-improved effort. He’s still in the zone of progressing and should feature.

Fearless Fracas has taken back to back runner up finishes and improvement should come handicapping now for the first time.

His last two efforts have been at Newcastle and then in a maiden hurdle at Ascot in December. Fearless Fracas gets the nod from us.

GIVE US A SWING has had a couple of goes this season in novice hurdles events and has gone well at around the 2m mark.

Based on that and coming into handicapping for the first time as well, there could be further progress. He looks to be the best of the rest in the field.

There was a good second-place finish for Neetside last time out as she went close in a 21f handicap. That was only 9 days ago.

Neetside is still a maiden at the moment but that was a clear career-best effort last time out and she should be right there in the frame.

NACHI FALLS kicked off the new term in fine fashion as he posted back to back wins, which included his second career win over the hurdles.

He was last seen 3 months ago in a chase when he finished near the back of the pack at Ludlow. The switch coming back to the hurdles is very interesting.

JOBSGREEN LAD should enjoy this drop in trip. He was last seen at Warwick 40 days ago in a handicap and he wasn’t disgraced with a 6th place finish in a big field.

He just was left with nothing more in the tank over a 2m 5f trip, so we think that he will be seen to much better effect here.

He has been right in the frame in each of his last four efforts this season.

There is really good consistency that has been produced from Away For Slates. He was fourth at Warwick on his latest run which was 19 days ago.

He was a little below par in that one but looks well positioned in the weights to launch a bolder bid. Away For Slates will probably be stronger in coming back down on the trip.

MOTARAABET gets the nod from us at 3/1* (betting odds recorded 20:16 GMT on Monday, 18th January 2021 at Bet365).

In October he made his chase debut when he claimed a decent 5th place finish at Kelso.

He has had one sharpener since then in a Lingfield bumper and on the return to chasing, Motarrabet looks a good fit.

BILLY’S ANGEL may have enough to launch a bit in this one. He did have a disappointing run last time out when he was sixth of 11 in a Leicester hurdle.

That latest effort was back in November last year and he may be able to bounce back refreshed and Billy’s Angel comes in with a 10lb claimer.

It has been the switch to chasing which has brought the best out of Don Herbager. Coming back to this 3m trip should see him go to good effect.

Don Herbager has placed in his two chase efforts so far and although he takes on more exposed runners here, he brings claims.

BALLYBREEN could be the way to go here at 3/1* (betting odds recorded 20:16 GMT on Monday, 18th January 2021 at Bet365).

Last Thursday he was in action and posted an easy win. Ballybreen just made all at Fontwell, absolutely thriving and he takes a 7lb penalty for that one, a few of which are wiped out by jockey Conor Ring.

THE DAWN MAN could be the other key player in this contest after a fourth-place on his reappearance run. That was at Hexham in December last year.

He was a long way back of the winner in that chase effort over a 3m trip. The going was heavy in that one but is not to be counted out.

He hit winning form 8 days ago, making it all in a conditional jockey’s event at Doncaster. That means that there is no penalty forthcoming for her.

So if Uisce Ur is anywhere near that recent form, she should be in the picture in this one. Uisce Ur has a 7lb claimer on her back as well and should have a big, big chance.

MADERA MIST is another of the obvious threats in his field. On her first run back from wind surgery, Modern Mist claimed a win.

That was in a Cheltenham Class 3 mares’ chase last month.

Over the hurdles is only up 3lb and a big enough player to be our selection at 2/1* (betting odds recorded 20:16 GMT on Monday, 18th January 2021 at Bet365).

COACHELLA GREEN looks to be heading in the right direction and she looks as if the extra trip will really help here.

She gets Brian Hughes in the saddle as well and the former point winner may have a say in this one as she keeps the tongue and cheekpieces combo.

NICK VEDDER just missed out on a hattrick last time out when he finished fourth here at Southwell. That was on the weekend when he finished fourth.

So it’s a quick turnaround but that doesn’t stop him being the 4/5 odds-on favourite for this trip back at Southwell* (betting odds recorded 20:16 GMT on Monday, 18th January 2021 at Bet365).

That’s because that latest run happened after a course and distance double. A poor start hampered his hattrick bid but still put in a good effort. He will take on a 4lb rise.

OWHATANIGHT should be a player in this field as well after only coming up 3lb for a win in a selling handicap at Wolverhampton.

That was a very good showing and now comes onto the firebrand for the first time.

DIRCHILL should get himself in the frame as he stays on the same mark as he was when he took second place over course and distance.

That was 12 days ago and continued some good form for him this season. With Hollie Doyle guiding him, Dirchill has a chance.
