Race Favourite

The race favourite for this handicap hurdle at Fontwell on Wednesday is MOUNT WINDSOR at 5/4* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

He is seeking to complete a four-timer in midweek after scores at Lingfield, Fakenham and Taunton at the back end of last year.

It’s a 90-day break that Mount Windsor comes back from. This trip is a tester for him as he probably wouldn’t be fancied further.

There is also an 8lb rise for him in the rating, but there’s a big run in him at this class.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

KINGS WALK has had wind surgery so that could perk him up a bit.

In March 2019 he was at Newbury in a chase and produced his best effort in that sphere to claim a second there.

He hasn’t been seen since late March 2019, so he’s worth watching in the market.

The other that we have for the shortlist is NORDIC COMBINED who got off the mark at Taunton last season. He is only up 1lb from that winning margin.

He’s not the most trustworthy in terms of jumping form and temperament when the going gets tough. But on his day he is more than capable so place claims should be there.

DEFINITE DILEMMA is the 9/4 favourite for this trip at Fontwell* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

There has been promising form over the fences from this season, which has been for a new yard. He opened the season with a second-place at Warwick last month.

Definite Dilemma followed that up with a course and distance effort, in which he took third, but he looked just at the peak of his stamina in that one. He should get close.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

FINNEGAN’S GARDEN should also be right in the match if he can follow up on his latest Haydock run.

The veteran looks to be on a workable mark in his one and he touched on a bit of rediscovery at Haydock last month.

TWENTY TWENTY is the other one for the shortlist. He is a course and distance winner and is just looking for a pick-me-up in form.

He did have a successful chase debut back in January at Plumpton in a novice event.

TRUCKERS PASS is the current even-money favourite for this contest* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

He opened the season with a good second-place finish at Ffos Las on what was his hurdles debut. He was beaten by another useful one on that occasion.

Three months later he came back for a follow-up, as he appeared at Doncaster and took fourth place in that one, never getting himself in the picture.

SANDY BROOK may be the way to go at 9/4* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

He opened the season with a third-place finish on his hurdles debut.

Then he stepped forward to score in an 8-runner event at Hereford last time out. Sandy Brook has big potential there.

SCARPIA is an interesting one in this one only because he perfected well at Kempton in a jumpers bumper last time out.

He actually looked to handle the test of speed in that one pretty well.

Scarpia looks built for further than this, but he could feature in the places based on hanging in there in that bumper.

It has been back to back wins for him, so he is coming in hot at the moment. The most recent of those scores was under a penalty at Fakenham 19 days ago.

There is a 13lb rise from him in the ratings now to deal with, but there still looks like to be more to come from this.

Fire Away takes a drop in trip which should help offset the rise.

DONDOLO DU GITE comes down in grade and therefore has to enter calculations.

On his last showing, he was third at Wincanton which was easily the best run that he has put together this season out of the three that he has had.

There was solid form in that one and entered this chase as a big player.

SMITHS CROSS placed from this mark at Newcastle last month.

That was another good step of progress in form from him and the headgear in the last two seems to have helped him.

The last victory that he took however was three years ago so others do have more appeal for the win.

There was a fifth-place finish for him last time out, which was at Warwick. That was after coming home first on his reappearance.

But the stewards wiped that win off the board in that 3m trip at Ayr. Aheadfullofdreams is well-positioned in the weights to have another bold run.

The present of POPPA POUTINE cannot be ignored here at all, however.

He was sixth on his latest run, which was at Ascot, but he got heavily hampered by the heavy ground in that one. So it could be excused.

That was after scoring a handicap debut at Southwell and Poppa Poutine returns from a short break with potential and gets the nods as our horse racing tip at 10/3* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

BE MY SEA was fifth in a 21f Ascot handicap hurdle in December on his last run. He wasn’t disgraced in that one at all.

Be My Sea has been knocking around the all-weather flat scene recently and has also been putting in some decent shifts there. So he’s interesting back over the hurdles.

Heading up the market as the race favourite is WHISPERING GYPSY at 15/8* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

There was a win for her last time out as she scored on the all-weather at Lingfield three weeks ago.

That came with the hood on for the first time, which she retains.

This is a stronger race to be fair, but Whispering Gypsy should be in the frame now as she moves to hurdle after that bumper success on her first run for Dan Skelton.

SASHENKA is our horse racing betting tip for this one however at 9/4* (betting odds recorded 19:12 GMT on Tuesday, 9th March 2021 at Betway).

She moved into hurdling with great aplomb to score a second palace finish at Wincanton in November.

There have been struggles since then but on these terms, she is a threat.

GINGER DU VAL is the other runner shortlisted. She kicked off the season with a fifth-place in a maiden hurdle at Wincanton.

That was also the UK debut for the French runner, happening two months ago. The tongue strap goes on for the first time and further improvement is expected.
