Newbury and Plumpton are in focus for today’s horse racing tips as we make recommendations from the day’s national hunt action.

It is fairly calm waters for midweek racing action, with the top fixture being a Class 2 mares’ handicap hurdle from Newbury.

It’s six selections in total that we have for Wednesday’s action.

So here are the best of today’s horse racing tips for Wednesday, 19th January 2022.

All times listed are GMT.

GRAN LUNA could be the one to beat in this mares’ contest at Newbury on Wednesday.

She took a win three weeks ago after battling to a score at course and distance.

That naturally puts her on the radar with claims once again.

That was only a narrow C&D score so Gran Luna only comes up 2lb for that.

She looks as if she could handle that and she has been extremely progressive with a great strike rate now.

VOICE OF CLAM was narrowly beaten by Gran Luna at the course and distance on her latest, three weeks ago.

That was the third straight runner-up finish that Voice Of Calm has landed.

She has mostly been in top form since winning at Cartmel in May and should get close again.

BROWN BULLETT has slid down the weights and could have something to offer in midweek in this small field.

There was a much better effort from her on her latest run a couple of weeks ago at Plumpton on a 2m trip.

Brown Bullet could make her presence felt in some way.

Tip: GRAN LUNA 15/8

Ones to watch: Voice Of Calm 5/2, Brown Bullet 33/1 e/w

HAWTHORN COTTAGE is one to watch for horse racing betting in midweek.

She has been going well again, taking two wins in her last six efforts. The latest of those was at Kempton in November.

Arguably Hawthorn Cottage hasn’t quite kicked on enough since taking that score.

But she went extremely well at course and distance in a Listed effort last month. This is easier so she should be right there.

KEEP WONDERING is another to keep an eye on. He got on the shortlist after winning three weeks ago at Haydock.

That was in the mud and I had to expend a lot of energy to get there. Will this be a little too soon for him?

There is potential there for Keep Wondering who is up 3lb as this isn’t the deepest of fields.

TANGO BOY may be worth a look as well. He hasn’t done as well over the fences yet as he had over the hurdles.

But he’s not a total forlorn hope and was reasonably sharp in a Newcastle chase in December. Place claims may well be there for Tango Boy.

Tip: HAWTHORN COTTAGE 5/1

Ones to watch: Keep Wondering 2/1, Tango Boy 33/1 e/w

FINE CASTING gets a look at this competitive looking handicap action at Newbury.

Fine Casting took a win on his latest, which was a month ago at Ffos Las.

There is course and distance from there too for him, having won a bumper at C&D.

There has been steady progress by Fine Casting over the hurdles and he should make his presence felt now in handicapping.

MUSCAT looks like an interesting one to consider for the shortest in this, despite being unexposed.

This will be just his third go over the hurdles after banking a third-place finish at Wincanton in a handicap effort a month ago.

That was under a penalty as well, Muscat having scored on his debut in a Wincanton maiden.

CHANCEUX is seeking a hattrick after showing some excellent form on his start to life over the hurdles.

His recent wins were in novices’ events at Chepstow and them Plumpton.

Stepping into handicapping for the first time means Chanceux could have plenty more to offer.

CANFORD LIGHT is another for the streets in this competitive fixture. The 2m return could work out for Canford Light.

He has fallen the last twice at Aintree and then Taunton.

But he did pick up a double earlier this season and just looks like he needs one strong contest under his belt to revive himself.

Tip: FINE CASTING 9/4

Ones to watch: Muscat 15/2, Chanceux 4/1

HENSCHKE was a faller at Fakenham on New Year’s Day ending some positive form that he had been showing.

Before that, Henschke had taken back to back runner-up sports.

The latest of those was at Fontwell in a very good run on his penultimate. It’s way too early to write Henschke off.

DYNAMITE KENTUCKY should get heavily involved in this one as he goes in search of a double.

He’s at the same mark as he was when getting off the mark immediately on his hurdles debut at Exeter last week.

Dynamite Kentucky put in a very encouraging run there and has big claims.

LAVORANTE is the final shortlisted contender for this race. His hurdles debut last March was good, finishing third at Fontwell in that.

He didn’t’ quite get it together on two subsequent efforts this season which was both at Sandown.

But the extra distance on offer could help get him back into gear.

Tip: Henschke 5/1

Ones to watch: Dynamite Kentucky 5/6, Lavorante 9/2

BLUEBERRY WINE will be looking to follow up a good win at Sedgefield on Boxing Day.

That was his first run following a wind op and a break of two and a half months. So that was a big positive return.

Blueberry Wine comes up 5lb for that offer but still looks like he could have plenty to offer in this sphere.

EN COEUR should make his presence felt as he has been in the frame in each of his last three efforts.

The most recent to those was here on a longer trip last time out, in which he came home third.

En Coueur has a good record at this venue, which includes a couple of previous course and distance wins.

BEN BRODY returned from a break to pick up a win at Uttoxeter in a 2m handicap hurdle this season.

The veteran then chased home a thriving youngster at Fontwell on his follow up and had Flamniger, who also goes in this race, behind him.

Ben Brody wasn’t as good last time out but has to pique interest based on his recent form.

Tip: En Coeur 7/2

Ones to watch: Blueberry Wine 5/2, Ben Brody 7/1

SHIROCCY ROAD claimed a victory on her last run, which was at Fakenham in December.

That saw her get off the mark over the hurdles in what was a mares’ maiden on a 2m trip.

This will be the handicap debut for Shiroccy Road and she looks to have reasonable claims.

TARA ITI has gone well the last twice and showed up very well with a third-place finish over the hurdles at Leicester 48 days ago.

That was a 1m 7f trip in December. There was plenty of encouragement in that one for her, which puts her back in the frame for a possible challenge on Wednesday.

DOLLY MCQUEEN is worth a look as well as she runs to action looking for a hattrick.

She has made the most of her chances having dropped in grade to take a couple of selling hurdles.

One of those was at course and distance.

Dolly McQueen had a spin on the flat two weeks ago so she should be sharp for that, even though she wasn’t in the contest. But she could enjoy a return to the timbers.

Tip: SHIROCCY ROAD 5/1

Ones to watch: Tara Iti 9/2, Dolly McQueen 12/1
