Pulis fits the bill for the Swans in battle for survival

Swansea have pulled the trigger and have decided to sack Paul Clement after less than a year on the job. It was kind of coming because heading into the Festive period of matches, Swansea are rock bottom the Premier League with just the three wins under their belt. The Swans have only managed the ten goals in their eighteen league games this season and face up to Crystal Palace this weekend, a side who they can at least look too for inspiration.

Palace changed bosses early, getting rid of Frank de Boer and getting Roy Hodgson and it has started to pay off in spades for them as they are climbing the table away from safety. Swansea are only W3 D3 L12 for the season and on the back of their struggles last term as well where only a strong finish saw them safe, it has been enough for the club and they have given Clement the boot.

Their chances of pushing on this season were damaged in the summer when they shipped Fernando Llorente to Spurs and Gylfi Sigurdsson off to Everton and neither of them were replaced. That is six managers in the last two years now that Swansea have gone through and clearly, the squad they have isn’t good enough for the Premier League and there doesn’t seem to be much of a positive recruitment plan behind the scenes either.

After dodging the relegation bullet for the last two seasons, BetVictor have Swansea as 2/9 favourites in Premier League relegation betting and that amounts to about an 80% probability of them playing in the Championship next season. So the question is, who do Swansea turn to now to dig themselves out of this hole?

A front-runner is Tony Pulis who was recently sacked by West Brom. The Welshman will instil a bit of fight in them at least you would think and offer some valuable experience to their plight. He is the even-money favourite at Betfair in the next Swansea manager betting market followed by Leon Britton, former Everton boss Ronald Koeman and former Manchester United Boss Louis van Gaal.

The club are not exactly in a great position to attract an illustrious name from Europe and the best thing that they can do is go for Premier League experience. So that could count out Swansea legend Britton although when they fired Michael Laudrup in 2014 (which ended the famous ‘Swansea-way’) they did put the inexperienced Garry Monk in charge.

Koemen may not have great appeal after his miserable time at Everton this season after having spent a lot of money, while Louis van Gaal was unimpressive in his time at Old Trafford. The name of Ryan Giggs has been touted around but this probably isn’t the time to be giving him his first managerial stint.
