Top Five Wimbledon 2019 Tennis Bets

Top five betting picks for Wimbledon 2019

Tennis Betting

What will the British summer serve up at Wimbledon this year? The third Grand Slam of the season lands with its start on July 1st and while there is no Andy Murray taking part in the singles, the former champion will be putting in an appearance in the doubles. Novak Djokovic is the one who is defending the crown after winning it for the fourth time last year. Will it be another title for him or one of the other Big Three of Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer?

Here are our top 5 Wimbledon 2019 bets

Novak Djokovic/Roger Federer Name The Finalists 3/1

This can be snapped up at a 3/1 odds with Paddy Power* (betting odds taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2019 at 10:23 pm). Does it look to be a really boring pick? Yes. Is that going to diminish the appeal on the wager? Not at all. Between them, they have won the Wimbledon title 12 times and since 2003, it has been either one of them, Murray or Nadal who has been crowned Wimbledon champion.

Their dominance in the game doesn’t look like slipping at all. While Djokovic, on top of his game is the clear favourite, Federer has a wonderfully favourable draw which should raise his chances. He could have to face Nadal in the semi’s, but Nadal has a massive tough draw prior to that.

Feliciano Lopez 14/1 Each Way To Win 2nd Quarter

The second quarter of the draw is the weakest and therefore the most wide open. Young German Alexander Zverez is the favourite to win this quarter, but he, along with the list of main contenders in the second all have flaws against them. You can really pick apart things here and see the temptation of looking further down the field. Zverev hasn’t been past the fourth round in any of his four previous attempts at SW19.

Milos Raonic has had injury concerns, Kevin Anderson is only just back after missing the entire clay swing, Wimbledon is Stan Wawrinka’s least productive Grand Slam and Karen Khachanov really has done nothing of note apart from on clay in 2019. Spain’s Feliciano Lopez recently ran to the Queen’s title on grass and, despite a poor Wimbledon record may be worth a flutter at 14/1 each way to win quarter two with William Hill* (betting odds taken from William Hill on June 28th, 2019 at 10:23 pm).

Winning Half – Top Half 8/11

We are going to be all over this. Basically down in the bottom half of the draw is Federer and Nadal. That, of course, is not dismissive of the duo, but it means that the top half of the draw is stacked. Not only is Novak Djokovic right at the top of the draw and attending as the outright favourite, but you have a clutch of top young players up in that top half of the draw too, like Stenafos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Throw in last year’s losing finalist Kevin Anderson, Alexander Zverev and Stan Wawrinka, it is definitely the stronger of the two halves of the draw. A winner to come from the top half is at 8/11 odds from bet365* (betting odds taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2019 at 10:23 pm).

Karolina Pliskova To Win Outright at 15/2

The form that Karolina Pliskova was carrying at Eastbourne prior to Wimbledon was red hot. She is always going to go into a current Grand Slam as one of the leading contenders. Despite still waiting to make her Grand Slam breakthrough, she looks a great proposition at 15/2 odds to win outright with Coral* (betting odds taken from Coral on June 28th, 2019 at 10:23 pm).

She has a terrible record at Wimbledon, but there were signs of progress last season from her as she reached the fourth round. We like the quarter that she has ahead of her and doesn’t look as if she would be seriously challenged until the quarterfinals and even then there doesn’t appear to be anyone she could meet who would be a serious threat. The Czech player should definitely be in contention here.

Women’s Winning Half – Bottom at 6/5

There is a quarter of death if you like, up in the top half of the draw. Top seed and current world number one Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Bencic, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and defending champion Angelique Kerber are all in that quarter. That’s a nightmare for any one of them to come through.

So while there is going to be a lot of focus on the top half of the draw which also includes former champions Petra Kvitova, Jo Konta, Sloane Stephens and Kiki Bertens, there are some big threats in the bottom half of the draw.

The aforementioned Karolina Pliskova is one of them, along with Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka. It’s worth a gamble on the less congested bottom half at 6/5 odds with Betfair* (betting odds taken from Betfair on June 28th, 2019 at 10:23 pm) to produce a winner. There’s more time for someone to play their way into form.
