Tottenham v APOEL Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 6th December 7.45pm

Spurs have completed their mission of getting through to the knockout stage and they have done it in style as well because they have won the group with a game to spare. That is because of their superior head to head record against Real Madrid. So this is a chance to rest some players for a dead rubber and they need that as well to freshen up as they are struggling for wins at the moment. APOEL are in a battle with Borussia Dortmund for third place in the group and therefore they do have something to play for at Wembley.

Tottenham v APOEL Betting Tips

Spurs will complete a very positive Champions League campaign no matter what happens in this game. They will win the group ahead of Real Madrid with a superior head to head over the Spaniards. They did win 3-0 at APOEL back on match day two and this will be just the second time that they have been in the knockout stage of the competition. Spurs have won both of their home games in the group stage so far, beating both Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid by a 3-1 scoreline. A Tottenham 3-1 scoreline in the Coral correct score market for this one returns a price of 10/1 while the shortest priced option in the market is a 2-0 for Spurs at a price of 11/2. They probably won’t have a lot of interest in this one.

Tottenham have claimed only the one win in their last six Premier League games so they haven’t been in good form. The goals have dried up a little bit for them, but Harry Kane is going well with 20 goals in his last 20 games for club and country and he is 2/5 anytime goalscorer favourite. There’s no reason for him to play in this one, so Fernando Llorente may be a better option at 10/11 as the Spaniard will probably get a run out. Tottenham had only won one of their previous five home games in Europe before beating Borussia Dortmund in this season’s group stage. The last time Spurs played a side from Cyprus was AEL Limassol in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League play offs with Spurs winning 5-1 on aggregate, with Kane scoring in both games. Over 2.5 goals at Coral for the game returns a price of 1/2.

While Spurs have nothing at stake, APOEL do. They need to better whatever Borussia Dortmund do out at Real Madrid one night in order to take third place from the Germans. APOEL have collected one point from their two road games so far, losing at Real Madrid 3-0 before earning a draw at BVB. The last time that they paid a visit to an English Premier League side was back in the 2009/10 group stage when they picked up a 2-2 draw at Chelsea. That came after a 1-0 loss at home against the Blues. They are not exactly a force to be reckoned with out on their travels in Europe having lost six of their last nine away games. They have never actually won away in 13 UEFA Champions League matches. They haven’t actually won a match in the group stage of the Champions League since back in 2012 when they beat out Lyon 1-0. Since that victory, APOEL have gone D3 L10 in the group stage of the competition. Mickaël Poté has scored seven goals in his last ten outings for APOEL and he is trading at a 4/1 in the Coral anytime goalscorer market.

Tottenham v APOEL Predictions

Spurs have done the job already and they can take a win in this one as well. APOEL have something to play for but they just lack the quality to do much else than frustrate opponents. Back the Lilywhites to still get the win on the board even if they are not at full strength.
