Tottenham v Newcastle Betting Tips – Premier League, 25th August 4.30pm

Spurs, with a little assistance from VAR, have moved on to four points for the start of the new season following a draw at Man City last weekend. They will be hoping for a bit of an easier game back on home soil this weekend as they host Newcastle. The Magpies have made a losing start to the new campaign and they look a little bit directionless. Read our predictions for Tottenham v Newcastle.

Tottenham News and Form

Spurs were lucky to get out of the Etihad Stadium with a 2-2 draw against Manchester City last weekend. Tottenham were barely in the game as an attacking force but got a couple of opportunistic goals. With a little help from VAR cancelling out a Man City winner because of an accidental handball which no-one spotted at the time, it was a good point for them. It added to the three which they took on the opening weekend from a 3-1 success at home for the newly promoted Aston Villa.

Spurs have conceded the opening goal in both games so far this season. Last season Spurs didn’t pick up a great home record against the rest of the top ten teams. They took just two wins from their nine such matches. But they proved to be unrelenting in their home fixtures against the teams in the bottom half of the table. Spurs won all ten of those such fixtures and banked a clean sheet in seven of them.

Harry Kane, who barely got a kick of the ball against Manchester City, is still Tottenham’s top scorer for the season. That is because he scored two goals in the last five minutes of their opener against Aston Villa. Kane is at 12/5 in the first goalscorer market* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 20th, 2019 at 8:15 a.m.).

Newcastle News and Form

Newcastle have only known defeat this season. They haven’t offered much of a hint that their losing streak is going to end either. They have churned out some poor disjointed performances under new boss Steve Bruce. It was a 0-1 home loss that they took against Arsenal to start the season off with. Then things went further downhill for them as they made a trip to the newly-promoted Norwich last weekend. The Magpies lost 3-1 at Carrow Road.

Newcastle don’t really need big difficult away games like this at the moment. It is going to be so tough for them to get anything out of this trip to North London. The Magpies won only four away games in last season’s top-flight campaign (D8 L7). But they did show some defensive stability for the large part. Well, that is against anyone outside of the top six.

Newcastle lost all of their away games last season against the top six and shipped at least two goals in all but one of those six fixtures. It was just one win that they took away against a team who finished 14th or higher. It was under a goal per away game that Newcastle managed last season. Their club-record signing, striker Joelinton has looked anything but the part to solve their clear goal scoring problems.

Tottenham v Newcastle Predictions

Tottenham to win: We don’t see anything other than a home win cropping up in this fixture. Newcastle don’t appear to have the quality in their ranks to match up to the Lilywhites. This should be Tottenham’s least stressful game so far. Home win to nil.
