Sagan the one to beat again in Points Classification

Sports Betting

While the main focus of the Tour de France will all be on the general classification, there are plenty of other top markets to take a look at for your cycling betting. The Green Jersey is the race for the Points Classification title and what this is, is pretty much just looking for a consistent rider who is going to churn it out stage after stage and not so much a focus on outright sprinters who are actually more likely to win a stage. This is really the secondary competition at the Tour de France.

Points are awarded for high finishes in a stage and for winning intermediate sprints, so while this is billed as a sprinter’s competition for the most part, all-round consistency wins the day. So where the General Classification is all about time the Green Jersey is about points. Peter Sagan is 4/9 outright favourite at Sky Bet for the Tour de France Green Jersey betting and the legend is probably going to take some beating. As long as he completes the race then it is more than likely that he will land this title.

He has won the Points Classification in each race since his debut in 2012 and he just has everything in the bag to take it again. He can deliver on the uphill finishes, he’s tough to get the better of on bunch sprints and does better than most other sprinters can manage on those more testing climbs. So he is just so well rounded that it’s hard to see anyone getting the better of him overall in the battle for the Green Jersey.

His versatility is the key to this because to topple him one of the more traditional outright sprinters would need to win six stages to be in a with a shot of taking him down mathematically and that’s without the extra points being challenged for on the flat. There are only eight sprint stages in total in this year’s Tour de France and that will work in Sagan’s favour. His main competitor is probably going to be Marcel Kittel at 11/4 with Sky Bet who has won eight stages this season. Peter Sagan is trading at 4/9 to win a stage during the race.
