Bubba Watson hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018 and heads to the 2020 Travelers Championship having finished outside the top 50 in three of his last five outings on the PGA Tour
However, it’s difficult to get away from the two-times major winner’s record at the TPC River Highlands.
Watson is bidding to join Billy Casper this week as the only four-times winner of this tournament and he also finished as runner-up in 2012.

Travelers Championship History

Known as the Insurance City Open, the Greater Hartford Open and later the Buick Open, the Travelers Championshjip adopted its current name in 2007.
It’s played at the TPC River Highland in Cromwell, Connecticut, a par-70 6,841-yard course.
The key part of the course is on the final nine with holes 15-17 played adjoining the four-acre lake in the centre of the course.
It’s generally regarded as a fair course, favouring neither the big-hitters or short-game specialists.
In the last seven years, there has only been one winner who wasn’t born in the United States – Scotland’s Russell Knox in 2016.

Travelers Championship Predictions

BUBBA WATSON‘s love affair with River Highlands demands the 33/1 with 888sport gets a second look.
He did record top six finishes in the Phoenix Open and the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this year so the 41-year-old is hardly a busted flush.
England’s PAUL CASEY is another who has gone well in the Travelers Championship in recent years.
He was second behind Watson in both 2015 and 2018 and can be backed at 40/1 with 888sport to go one better this year. But while his driving and approach play has looked as good as ever this year, he’s not been great on the greens and this course needs a good all-round game.
As always, Rory McIlroy is near the head of the market (a general 12/1) but this week the Ulsterman is being challenged for favouritism by BRYSON DECHAMBEAU and Justin Thomas. McIlroy was no better than average in last week’s RBC Heritage though does have a couple of top 20 finishes here on his CV.
DeChambeau has only shot more than 69 in his last eight rounds at River Highlands so looks to have strong claims given his strong performance at Harbour Town last week – the Californian is much stronger off the tee since he put on some weight.
Thomas also finished strongly last week but that disguised a modest opening couple of round and, like McIlroy, he’ll improve as the season gets back into full swing.
At much bigger odds, PATRICK RODGERS could be interesting with several bookmakers offering each-way betting down the eighth place.
Third in the tournament in 2016, the Indiana native is still only 27 even though he seems to have been around a long time.
He’s never won on the PGA Tour but was second in the RSM Classic last season and has made the top 20 several times already this year. He’s made the cut in each of his last five visits to River Highlands and should give supporters a run for their money again.
