Triumph Hurdle Betting Preview & Odds – 17th March, 2017

Charli Parcs big value for Triumph Hurdle

Cheltenham Festival

There is a cracking opening race in store to get the final day of Cheltenham racing off with. This is the Triumph Hurdle and it could be a thrilling ride because the field is stacked with potential champion juveniles and it could be one of the highlights of the Festival itself. This is the biggest stage anywhere for the world’s best juveniles to make an early mark in their careers and it is Defi Du Seuil who has been a long ante post 7/4 favourite at bookmaker William Hill to win the Triumph Hurdle 2017.

He is unbeaten over the hurdles and landed a win at Cheltenham at the end of January, finishing nine lengths clear of Rainbow Dreamer in the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle. There is still a certain looseness about his jumping but he has been extending his form the longer the season has gone on. He was only just scraping out the wins in the early parts of the season, but convincing distance wins at Chepstow and then at Cheltenham in his last two outing has only raised his stock of Triumph Hurdle 2017 betting.

Behind him you have an interesting trio of Charli Parcs, Master Blueyes and Mega Fortune all coming in at the 6/1 price. Charli Parcs has taken a lot of interest after his first run on British soil back in December, where he showed tremendous speed in landing a big victory at Kempton over the Christmas meeting there. He was favourite for the race anyway and he delivered on that status, putting a smooth performance around the track before blasting away down the final straight with a turn of speed that totally destroyed everyone.

If we have some quicker ground at Cheltenham then Charli Parcs is looking some big value in that one. He was set to go in that Triumph Trial alongside Defi Du Seuil in January, but the ground was too soft for him so he was pulled out, but it is notable that he was odds-on favourite to take the race ahead of the current Triumph Hurdle favourite. After skipping the Triumph Trial he went in the Adonis Hurdle and didn’t handle ground that soft still and ending up falling. But on a good track, he has the speed to challenge here.

Back in December Master Blueyes was a distant second to Charli Parks at Kempton but he ran a very good race and he was the benefactor from Charli Parcs taking a fall in the Adonis, as Master Blueyes landed the Grade 2 win, albeit in fortunate circumstances. It is the progress behind Charli Parcs really that has him priced where he is for the Triumph Hurdle 2017 and after a warm up win at Ludlow he could well be in the hunt for a top three finish in this one, although he may ultimately miss out on first spot.

Then there is Mega Fortune running as well at the same price to throw some extra confusion into things for punters. Gordon Elliott’s charge has been jumping well this season and he landed a remarkable win in the Grade 1 outing at Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown, where he held a slender lead around the final bend and not only held on, but stretched away from Bapaume and Dinaria Des Obeaux to land that impressive victory. So that Grade 1 win against some stiff opposition has put him in the picture in this one and not one to be counted out at the price.

LandOfHopeAndGlory has been tracking well since moving over the jumps where he won his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse and he has landed wins in his two following racing since then. A big each way threat in the field he should be. Bapaume’s interest will have waned a little after his loss to Mega Fortune, and the same can be said of Dinaria Des Obeaux too.

Triumph Hurdle 2017 Betting Odds

Défi Du Seuil 7/4, Charli Parcs 6/1, Master Blueyes 6/1, Mega Fortune 6/1, Bapaume 8/1, Land Hope And Glory 14/1, Soldier in Action 16/1, Dinaria Des Obeaux 16/1, bar 20/1.

Triumph Hurdle 2017 Predictions

The threat of Charli Parcs can’t be dismissed in this one at all. You can’t beat the price on him here considering that he was favourite ahead of Defi Du Sueil for the Triumph Trial. He has a devastating kick in him which should be too much for the rest of the feet and as long as he stays on his feet he will be there or thereabouts. Our each way punt has to be LandOfHopeAndGlory.
