Tuesday Cheltenham 16.50 Betting – Cargo can carry big load to success at 14/1 with Marathonbet

Cargo can prove a Precious commodity

Cheltenham Festival

More than the maximum of 20 runners have been declared for the 16.50 Northern Trust Company Novices’ Handicap Chase but the two reserves will need a couple to drop out if they are to get a run. There are only two entries from Ireland but both are to the fore in the betting.

It says much about the competitive nature of the race that only 7lb separates the top weight from those at the foot of the handicap and that is reflected in the odds.

Williams hoping Guye can be the guy

Venetia Williams looks to have a nice prospect in her hands in Espoir De Guye.
Impressive at both Exeter and Ascot in December, the six-year-old has had a nice break so arrives at the Cheltenham Festival refreshed.
Soft ground will hold no fears for this up-and-coming novice but he’s suffered a 14lb hike in the weights during his absence and that could be enough to prevent the hat-trick – 9/1 with Coral.

Channon representative hoping to hit the right note

Mick Channon won this race two years ago with Mister Whitaker and he fancies the chances of Hold The Note.
Placed twice in his three starts over fences, he didn’t quite get home when second in a Grade 2 over 3m at Warwick in January so today’s shorter trip should be right up his street.
He appears to have the beating of Whatmore and Highest Sun on the form book and is a best 15/2 with Coral.

Aura popular with punters

Imperial Aura was second in a good trial for this at Cheltenham in January.
A best 5/1, form over the Cheltenham fences is always a plus in novice races at The Festival but it is off-putting that trainer Kim Bailey never seems to have much luck with his chasers at the track. A 7lb rise in the weights for a defeat could also be problematic.

Earl looking to lord it over rivals

It took a while for Earlofthecotswolds to get the hang of jumping fences but he finally got his head in front at Exeter in December.
He’s only run on soft ground twice before and has a perfect record on the surface so there will be high hopes that he can jump well enough to stay in contention around here.
With cheekpieces on for the first time, the 25/1 with Betfred could be generous.

Cargo to prove himself a Precious commodity?

Though sharing top weight isn’t ideal in a hot handicap, PRECIOUS CARGO is certainly built to shoulder welter burdens.
He has won four of his nine races under Rules and has been crying out for a step up in trip, despite running well over 2m so far this season. There is still 14/1 available with several bookmakers and most are offering each-way betting down to fifth place in this contest.
