Tuesday Racing Exeter 14.30 March 3 – Fortescue can be backed at 4/1 with Paddy Power

Fortescue will need to show fortitude

Horse Racing Betting

Only six runners go to post for Tuesday’s Weatherbys TBA Chase at Exeter (14.30) but this is a fascinating Novices’ Limited Handicap and a race that should give plenty of pointers for the weeks if not months ahead with several powerful stables represented.

Hugo looks to add to Pipe revival

David Pipe’s stable is back among the winners and Hugo ‘N Taz is having just his second start for the Nicholashayne yard having won the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen on his first.
He was strongly fancied for the Eider at Newcastle before that meeting was abandoned but does look an out-and-stayer and there is a worry about the drop back to 3m. He is also 8lb higher on his return to action so the general 9/4 is plenty short enough.

Wave may have wayward tendencies

Quick Wave can be backed at 3/1 with Bet365 but comes with risks attached.
She jumped badly right on her chasing debut at Warwick and her win in a three-runner race at Leicester was not without alarm as she all-but refused at one fences before eventually running out an easy winner.
Raised 5lb, Venetia Williams’ mare still has something to prove.

A lot to like about Daly gelding

While FORTESCUE was probably a lucky winner at Uttoxeter last time, he’s done little wrong in his chasing career to date.
A victory at Southwell was followed by an even better performance when runner-up to the well-regarded Lamanver Pippin at Chepstow. Then came that Uttoxeter win, for which he’s been raised 4lb.
He gets on well with Hugh Nugent, however, and both the going and distance are very much in his favour unlike some. He is definitely worth a second look at 4/1 with Paddy Power.

Will Samburu finally come good?

Samburu Shujaa is a bit of an enigma but he’s potentially well handicapped if he get his act together in the jumping stakes.
His two runs so far over fences have been underwhelming but he has been taking on decent opposition.
Philip Hobbs’ charge is now back on the same handicap mark as when landing a competitive hurdle at Chepstow a year ago.
Richard Johnson is back in the saddle and the 7/1 with Bet365 will interest a few who think he is probably better than he’s shown so far in chases.

Trio not tempting

The Trevor Hemmings’ colours are frequently seen in the winner’s enclosure but Trio For Rio has yet to make a positive contribution to the coffers in four runs over fences.
He was well beaten behind Hugo ‘N Taz at Market Rasen and has been looking very one-paced in other runs even though he has won over hurdles and in point-to-points – a general 15/2.

Chick may need a career-best for third course win

Evan Williams’ Virginia Chick won’t be getting involved in a battle for the lead as he has to be delivered late.
He was won three times at Exeter but didn’t find as much off the bridle last time as expected and this is an equally strong contest.
The general 8/1 looks a fair assessment of his chances under top weight.
