UCI Road World Championships Betting 2017 – Cycling Winner Odds & Predictions

Dumoulin and Sagan heavily backed for success in Norway

Sports Betting

There’s more great cycling betting action to enjoy with the UCI Road World Championships 2017 underway. This years edition of the tournament, which will be the 90th edition, is being hosted in Norway for the second time in its history. Bergen is the host City for the World Championships which will see 12 events being contested. The action started on September 17th with the Men’s Time Trial which was won by Team Sunweb which is headed by Tom Dumoulin. Chris Froome’s Team Sky came home third in the event.

Across the course of the championships, there will be an Elite road race, Elite time trial and Elite team time trial for men and women. There are two men’s U23 events, a road race and a time trial, while there are two junior events, again a road race and a time trial for both men and women. The real highlight of the championships is the Elite men’s road race which is the twelfth and final event to  go off for the UCI Road World Championships and is contested over 267.5 km.

Men’s Time Trial Winner

Dutchman Tom Dumoulin is going to be expected to steam away with the individual Time Trial at the UCI Road World Championships 207 and at bet365 he is the 4/7 outright favourite. It is going to take something to stop him. Especially with him having gone so well in the Team Time Trial on Sunday to open the Championships with. He is something of an expert as he has won the Time Trial at the national Road Championship for the last two seasons and he was second in Rio last year at the Olympics as well. Chris Froome is 7/2 joint second favourite to win the Trial alongside Rohan Dennis. Froome, a four-time Tour de France winner will be leading the way for the British team. Owain Doull and Geraint Thomas couldn’t keep pace with their teammates in the team Time Trial and Thomas, along with 2011 champion Mark Cavendish, who is still recovering from an injury back in July, are out of selection for the race. It is Tao Geoghegan Hart who goes with Froome for Great Britain in the Elite Men Time Trial. Dumoulin gets our nod to take the win though.

Tom Dumoulin 4/7, Chris Froome 7/2, Rohan Dennis 7/2, Primoz Roglic 18/1, bar 25/1

Men’s Road Race

For the Men’s Road Race, it is worth noting that Chris Froome isn’t in the selection from Team GB here. Representing Great Britain will be Adam Blythe, Mark Christian, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Peter Kennaugh, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Scott Thwaites and none of them are really expected to be in the title picture here. The outright favourite is Peter Sagan at 5/2 with bet365 with the Slovakian rider taking a stage at this year’s Tour de France. Sagan is the reigning champion in this event after beating out Mark Cavendish in last year’s edition, with Tom Boonen coming home third, which added to his 2015 win. He has been well backed for the race which is pretty hilly and he has form as well with a win at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec in early September.

There will be a big home favourite going for glory in this one, with Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen and he takes a little form in this as well with a stage win at the Tour of Britain recently. What’s interesting here is that Michal Kwiatkowski has had a tremendous season and if he gets a selection he should make a real nuisance of himself, particularly with his finishing speed and Greg van Avermaet from Belgium has had a pretty good season as well. Sagan though is the one to beat without question. He has the winning momentum going in this event, the course will suit him and he is value to back.

Peter Sagan 5/2, Michal Kwiatkowski 6/1, Edvald Boasson Hagen 9/1, Greg Van Avermaet 12/1, Fernando Gaviria 12/1, Michael Matthews 12/1, Matteo Trentin 14/1, Alexander Kristoff 18/1, Tim Wellens 20/1, bar 28/1

Women’s Road Race

Lizzie Deignan, who only had an appendix operation back in August is heading up Team Sky’s squad for Great Britain. If she’s fully fit then she should be in the frame for a medal in this one. She won the event back in 2015 and she heads up a really strong line up for Great Britain including Elinor Barker, Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Dani King, Mel Lowther and Hayley Simmonds. After her appendix issue, her appearance at the World’s was obviously in doubt, but Deignan (new Armitstead) is one of the best in the world. She won the 2014 and 2015 UCI Womens’ World Cup series along with that success in the road race at the World’s two years ago. She won silver at the Olympics in 2013 before making the move over to road cycling. The big threat in the Women’s Road Race is the Dutch team with Marianne Vos, Annemiek van Vleuten, Anna van der Breggen and Ellen van Dijk. Because Deignan realistically can’t be expected to really strongly challenge for gold, Vos for the Dutch could be the one to deliver.
