Uganda earned a second place finish in their group posting a W1 D1 L1 record. They started up with a 2-0 success over DR Congo to set them on their way. They built on that with a point against Zimbabwe before taking a loss against Egypt. That loss against the Egyptians didn’t end up hurting them in terms of qualification, the four points earned from the other two games being enough to get them through in second. So they do also avoid a group winner in the round of sixteen. Will they be able to capitalize despite being underdogs?

Senegal were also second place finishers from the group stage. They missed out on top spot to Algeria. Senegal earned a 2-0 win over Tanzania in their opening game. But then in their heavyweight showdown against Algeria, they came off second best in a 1-0 scoreline. But still, they eased to a big win over Kenya to round off the group stage and the main goal of getting out of the group was achieved. Senegal made the quarterfinals two years ago where they bowed out. They are looking for their first ever Cup of Nations title.
Senegal are a team in great form at the moment with a win in all but one of their last nine games. That’s impressive and their last three wins have each been with a clean sheet too.
