The favourite for the opening race of Sunday’s UK & Ireland racing preview is ONASSIS.

The Charlie Fellowes-trained filly is currently at 7/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020).

It has been a good campaign from her, winning two of her five trips. The first of those was on her reappearance run at Royal Ascot over 1m.

She added the second score of the season with a win in a listed Chantilly event in July.

On her last run there was another excellent effort from her. She was fourth at this 7f distance in a Group 3 effort at Doncaster.

That was a tougher race than this one, so Onassis looks to be in very good shape. She’s also fine on the softer ground as well, so she is expected to be right there.

LEAFHOPPER looks as if she poses a threat in this one as well in what will be just her third racetrack appearance.

After scoring in a Newmarket maiden on her debut last summer, she returned in style as well.

Following more than a year away, she scored at Catterick three weeks ago. That was a novice event, so she’s up in class here.

WITH THANKS will have to be the other nomination for the shortlist in this race. She was another that scored on her debut.

She doubled the tally on her third and most recent run when she appeared at Catterick. That was 7 weeks ago and the Willie Haggas-trained filly has to be respected for this contest.

We have SONNYBOYLISTON at the head of the market at a 5/2 quote for the International Stakes* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020).

He comes back into action seeking to complete a hattrick. He will have the cheekpieces on for the first time.

On his last run Sonnyboyliston scored over course and distance in a field of 22. That was on slightly softer ground, but he was keeping on very well at the end.

Sonnyboyliston is coming up in class, but looks to be one of the front runners. It has been three wins in four appearances so far. He is one that is definitely on the up at the moment.

ORDER OF AUSTRALIA cannot be overlooked for this effort. He is also looking to complete a hattrick for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

He has put in some good runs in a couple of Classics and his latest scores happened at Dundalk and then the Curragh.

If anyone here is going to really challenge the favourite, it should be him.

UP HELLY AA has produced some good, consistent results. On the back of that, he should be expected to go well once again.

This will be his first trip since taking third place at Leopardstown a month ago. That was his second effort of the campaign and he should be considered for the shortlist.

This is one of the top contests of the day for UK & Ireland racing. DE RASHER COUNTER is the market leader currently at 10/3* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020).

He will be making his reappearance for the season in this one.

First off the bat, he is rated lower over the hurdles than he is the fences. On his return to action last season he was beaten in a very similar race.

De Rasher Counter scored well at Newbry in November at the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase, but never followed up in his following two efforts.

So we are sending support to SUNSET SHOWDOWN at 9/2 as our selection* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020). On his last run he was in the middle of the park in the Pertemps Final.

But he scored in two of his final five races of the previous campaign, tallying three in total.

Last autumn he was beaten only narrowly at Cheltenham from this very mark. This will be just his second run back since a wind operation and warrants a look.

This is a wide open field we feel and there SAMMYLOU, who is coming up in class, needs to be looked at. He has done very well over course and distance since his reappearance run.

Sammylou collected a win on his last effort under conditions three weeks ago as well. He will find the going tough here, but a 7lb claimer helps.

We are in the position of having current 6/1 joint favourites for this one* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020). That is Eye Of The Water and Alaadel, so we will take a look at both.

EYE OF THE WATER has taken a second place finish on each of his last four runners. So he is in good sharp form.

On his latest run he was in a field of 12 at Salisbury and set the standard there for most of the trip.

As for ALAADEL he has Oisin Murphy booked and had a good run just over a couple of weeks ago at Kempton.

He was fifth there, but did a lot better than the result suggests. That followed up on a good progressive effort at Goodwood.

The quicker the pace, the more he is going to come into play in this fixture. He has won two of his last three runs and delivered a superb second place at Newmarket three weeks ago.

The blinkers have helped him out and he retains though. He has a 5lb claimer to boot, so there should be a bold effort coming from him after just missing out on a hat-trick.

There is also big form at the moment from THE LAMPLIGHTER who is one for the shortlist from 10/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020).

He was 1lb higher 18 days ago when he took on a course and distance effort. He scored in that one and while he has come up further, but only by 5lb, he has in tremendous heart at the moment.

This will be his reappearance run having been away from action for 7 months.

On that last run, he seemed to take a step forward with a second place at Hereford. Oscar Asche will be making his chase debut in this one.

He warrants a look because he appeared to be making good progress at the end of the last campaign.

He has had a reappearance run under his belt and it was a good one too. He took third at Uttoxeter so should be a big more match fit than others in this field. Jersey Bean stays at the same mark.

ROSSERK ABBEY is another that looks as if that first win over the bigger stuff is coming soon.

He has been out twice in his campaign and is looking solid in his early days over the fences.

He was second in a handicap chase at Warwick last time out. That was three weeks ago and he moves up 2lb in the ratings.

Heading up the market for our final race of Sunday’s preview is STORMY IRELAND at 6/5* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:47 GMT on Saturday, 11th October 2020). The smart hurdler scored three times in her final four runs last season.

He has since switched from Willie Mullins to Paul Nicholls, who has thrown her straight into action over the fences.

So Stormy Ireland definitely piques some interest here and if you are going on hurdles form alone, she is the standard setter in this one. She will be our pick.

HIGHWAY ONE O TWO was coming on well over the rhodes last season as well. That culminated in a win at the Dovecote at Kempton.

That compiled a hattrick for him at the end of the last campaign over the smaller stuff. Now on the step up to the fences, he definitely delivers some claims on his debut.

STOLEN SILVER looks a good fit for a campaign over the fences. He picked up a win in January and he was a very useful hurdler.

He pulled up at Cheltenham in a handicap hurdle on his final effort of the previous campaign. But he’s not to be taken lightly for this contest.
