The Race 5 favourite from Pontefract is BREATH OF JOY from a 9/2 current quote* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020).

She has put down some good form on her return to action.

She scored a win first time back at Haydock in June and then put in another excellent effort when she came home second in a field of 9 at Chelmsford.

With a good low draw behind her for this one, Breath Of Joy looks to be a good fit.

STAR IN THE MAKING at a quote of 5/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020) is well worth considering in this one as she comes back down to 6f.

Her last run saw her take 5th of 7 in a Newmarket handicap on a 7f trip. But she didn’t get her race plan right there, burning out much too early. So that’s where the shorter trip should help her out.

MANY A STAR looks to be one to keep on the shortlist for this handicap. Giving him claims in this one was a win on his reappearance. That was three weeks ago when he really ran on well. He does take on a 4lb rise for his recent success but still looks to be on a very competitive mark.

PHUKET POWER has rattled the crossbar a few times this season. There have been four place finishes in his last six runs and he needs to be respected in this contest. He gets a nice draw for this sprint action. He returns to action after a 3rd at Leicester in a field of nine a couple of weeks ago.

SHADES OF BLUE is currently leading the market for this Pontefract Fillies Stakes, one of the big races of the day. She is sat at 9/4 for the contest* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020).

Shades Of Blue is familiar with this contest as she was second in last year’s effort. Last time out she was in Group 3 action at York and ran well to take a fourth place finish.

She will have the visor for the first time here and looks to have some leading claims.

EXCEPTIONAL is a two-time winner of this race and she is back for more. With that course and distance history behind her, she has to pique some interest.

She is still a lightly raced filly at the end of the day. Just over a month ago she had plenty in the tank at the finish in taking a runner-up spot from a field of 17 at Newmarket.

MAGICAL JOURNEY looks to be one to keep on side as well for this contest. She scored a very good runner up place in a 6f Haydock handicap on her last effort which was 40 days ago.

This will be the fifth racetrack appearance for her, looking for her first win since scoring on her debut. There’s plenty of promise there.

We are looking at one more for this top contest. That is STORMY GIRL who put in a couple of very good efforts on her return to action this year.

Her last run was in a Listed effort at York, but she found the 7f trip not too much to her liking having little to challenge with at the end. The drop in trip could suit.

There is another big field in focus for this one, which is Race 4 for Chester. The favourite for it is LINCOLN PARK of 4/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020).

He gets a nice draw from stall 3 for this one and he has been consistent without having yet scored in this campaign. He’s been in the frame for each of his last four efforts.

The conditions underfoot if they are leaning towards soft is likely to help his cause. Lincoln Park is a former winner at Chester as well and passed on a planned run there earlier in the week.

REVICH is one that stands out as being a strong contender for this fixture. His last effort was at Newmarket where he was shaping well and took a fifth-place finish.

He has always enjoyed a trip at Chester having done well on each of his three previous runs at the track. Revich gets a visor for the first time and has a great draw from stall 2.

ALMUFTI is an interesting runner in this fixture. That will be based on a superb run at the Silver Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot back in June.

He claimed a very solid fourth-place finish there, one of the best efforts of his career.

He hasn’t been back to that kind of form since, but with cheekpieces now on for the first time, he should have each-way claims.

It has been three wins in four trips for Highwaygrey this season and he was travelling well to score his most recent success over 10f at Pontefract.

He takes on an extra 5lb for this contest and has to be on the shortlist.

GABRIAL THE ONE scored on his return to action this season, nailing the success on the all-weather at Newcastle in June.

He has been solid and consistent since with his efforts. Just four days ago he took on a longer trip at Chester and landed the fourth place.

Gabriel The One looks suited to the track and place claims are easily there.

BERKSHIRE SAVVY is the other that we will take a look at for this racing. The Andrew Balding-trained gelding took a good third on his last run at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago.

That was after securing a win at Windsor in July. Berkshire Savvy should enter the calculations in an exciting field.

TOP SECRET holds the position of favourite for this Chepstow handicap on Friday from 13/8* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020).

He is stepping into just his fifth racetrack appearance and is yet to get off the mark.

But he was in great form in his last run to take third place in a big field of fifteen at Newbury last time out, which was about a month ago.

The potential is there and if he can build on that kind of form he shouldn’t be far away from his breakthrough.

AYR HARBOUR is worth a look because he is coming significantly down in class. He has put a couple of wins on the board this season, the most recent of those happening back in February.

This is a much easier fixture for him to handle than his last race, which was in a Class 2 Ascot Handicap. That tumble in Class can’t be ignored.

BEAUTY CHOICE may be able to enter the calculations as well for this contest. He scored his first win, landing a course and distance success in July to make his breakthrough.

On his last run, he took a fifth of eight at Doncaster, but he found the pace just a little too warm for him on the day. He has placed claims.

LATE ARRIVAL is the 13/8 favourite for this contest* (betting odds taken from Betway at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th August 2020). There was some good form delivered by him on his last run when he nailed second place at Lingfield.

That was a couple of weeks ago in a big field of 12 and he was handled very well in the contest.

It also looked as if the drop in trip had benefited him greatly as well. Late Arrival gets top jockey Oisin Murphy booked for this latest run.

REDEMPTIVE has been knocking on the door of success since her return to action. She returned with a second-place finish and then followed that up with a third place at Newcastle. At the worst she should have place claims here and she gets a tongue strap back on.

Having been well treated by the handicapper, SPANISH STAR comes up in trip and he could pose a threat here. His last run was 21 days ago at Newmarket over a 6f trip and he took a nice third place there from a field of 11.

Spanish Star is now 1lb below his last winning mark. He looks to be back in form after his recent run.
