This is a good opening fixture to look at for Monday’s UK racing.

At the head of the market for this juvenile contest is THE ROSSTAFARIAN at 2/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

This will be the second appearance of The Rosstafarian, trained by Hugo Palmer. He scored a good strong win on his debut.

That was on soft going at the start of October. After his stylish opening victory there is naturally likely to be more progression for him. That debut win was at Salisbury.

But our pick for the fixture is going to be NAAMOOS who just looks the better option to roll with. He demolished a novice field last month at Beverley.

He is coming up in class here and he looks a perfect fit for a 1 mile trip. The win at Beverley was his second racetrack appearance and the result was never in doubt.

The competition is a little stiffer here, but should get close to landing a very nice Listed prize here from 11/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

The other name that we will put into the hat for the shortlist is PYTHAGORAS. That is because he is heading in the right direction with a good career start.

He built on a promising debut to score in his following two races. Last time out he claimed to place fish in a Group 3 fixture, so there is definitely potential there and he is one to keep on side.

The race favouirte for this Conditions Stakes run at Potnrecact is THE GRAND VISIR at 11/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

He will likely have a very good chance in this small field. The Grand Visir has taken 5 wins from 17 flat races before.

On his last trip he was in the Doncaster Cup and put in a very credible run there to take third place behind winner Spanish Mission.

That was just over a month ago so he should be still sharp. The drop in grade is likely going to be a really huge factor for him in this one.

STAG HORN has the potential to make his presence felt in this contest. He is really improving well at the moment.

It has been really good from him recently, having won his last two. The first of those was at 1m 6f at Catterick.

Stag Horn then completely franked that form with a success at Goodwood on a 2m trip.

He has Hollie Doyle on his back and is our pick from 13/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

The other that we will consider for this one is the returning LUCKY DEAL. He did get a decent fourth place finish at Royal Ascot in the Queen Alexandra.

But on his last effort, he was well below expected form at the March Cup. But LUCKY DEAL has been gelded since then and makes an interesting returning player.

Heading up the market for this fixture is SIMON THE GREAT at 10/3* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

It has been steady form since his return to action. He bagged a third place finish on his chase debut, which was his reappearance run as well for this season.

That was at Stratford over a 17f trip. Simon The Great followed that up with a fourth place finish at Southwell after that.

He never quite hit the same form as he did in his reappearance run, but should feature here. Simon The Great does have a 3lb claimer as well to boost his chances.

KAPSIZE has dropped 3lb in the ratings as he comes into this handicap chase. That means that he should be off a really workable mark for this contest.

On his last effort he claimed a third place finish in a handicap chase, a respectable enough result there in September.

Kapsize will also claim 7lb for jockey Tom Buckley. He has to enter calculations.

This is a wide open field though and we are going to pick out HAB SAB as our selection for the chase.

This will be his reappearance run, but it was his form prior to going into break that puts him in contention, as long as he handles this trip refreshed.

Back in March on his last run, he scored over course and distance in softer conditions from a field of 9. He is up 4lb, but a sharp return could see him feature strongly.

CRUYFF TURN is the current 15/8 favourite for this Pontreact handicap* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

There’s very reasonable claims as well that he is brought to the table after a good run at Ayr last time out.

Three weeks ago Cruyff Turn scored a very good second place from eight in an Ayr handicap over a mile.

So he is coming up on a trip here, which would suit him nicely. As long as the conditions can be handled by him then he’s likely to be in the frame.

He was keeping on well across that 1m trip at Ayr, so we see enough in him to take the win from this field.

AWAKE MY SOUL was a runner up on his last effort, which was at Nottingham. That was, notably at this distance which makes him competitive for this run.

He is only up the 1lb from that effort as well. That was some nice progress made from him in that win. The one concern over him will be the fact that he hasn’t managed a score since 2018.

The final selection for the shortlist in this one is COCKALORUM. He has been busy and just under two weeks ago, was last seen.

He was third there in a field of nine in a Nottingham handicap when last seen. Cockalorum was running on there and he has proven before that he can handle the conditions.

There are solid claims from him if he can back up that last run.

The current 5/2 favourite is DR SANDERSON* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

This will be his reappearance run, but the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding is a three-time winner over the hurdles.

He is coming into action for a form yard and hit a nice bit of form in his penultimate race. That was a second place finish at Ludlow over a 2 1/2m trip.

Dr Sanderson failed to follow that up with a subset trip at Kempton. But in this fixture, he certainly brings some decent claims to the table.

ENRICHISSANT scored a wide-margin win on his last trip. He found the going easy and he struck the facile success at Huntington by 18 lengths.

That, of course, means a serious hike was going to come from the assessor and it has duly arrived.

The six year old goes up 12b, but there is no question about the good form he was in before he went off for his break.

Enrichissant certainly piques plenty of interest on return and makes it to the list as our pick at 10/3* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 18th October).

MASON JAR made his chase debut on his last effort. That resulted in a fourth place finish for him in a Fontwell maiden.

There should be further progress on the table to come from him. It’s worth a look back to last autumn when he strung together a hattrick over the hurdles.

He could shine if he progresses further over the fences in this one.
