The day’s racing action comes from Market Rasen, Ripon and Newbury.

There are a couple of big feature races on Sunday, those being the Great St Wilfrid Handicap from Ripon and the St Hugh’s Fillies’ Stakes at Newbury.

Current race leader for this Handicap Hurdle is INGLEBY HOLLOW at a 3/1 quote* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

The 8-year-old was last seen on the flat at Pontefract at the end of July, scoring 5th in a field of 12.

It is his form over the jumps that brings bigger appeal as he has been in the frame on each of his last three such trips.

The biggest one of those was a Class 1 Listed trip at Market Rasen in July last year, getting in the frame from 16/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

It will be interesting to see him back in National Hunt action.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

BRANDON CASTLE scored over course and distance last time out and he is taking a rise for this one.

He didn’t have the greatest of times last season, but that recent score at Market Rasen, which was at the end of July, sees him bring back some good form to the table.

That was the fourth win of ten starts. Brandon Castle returned to his break by scoring an excellent fourth place at the Summer Hurdle before that C&D success here. He needs to be on the shortlist.

The other runner that we have to pay attention to for this contest is GET BACK GET BACK. His rising form was crowned last time out at Uttoxeter with a score in handicap hurdle action.

That was just in July so he should be coming in fit and sharp and warrants some respect to show well in this big field

Race Favourite

HORTZADAR is the current 11/4 favourite for this Ripon handicap* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). It was third place that he took on his last effort.

That was from a field of 12 at Thirsk on a 1m trip in July. He goes for trainer David O’Meara who has won the last two renewals of this race, so he is in good hands.

Hortzadar is the one who won this race last year. So there’s big claims.

HESSLEWOOD looks to be in good solid form at the moment. On his last trip, he was in the middle of the pack of eight over a longer trip.

So he shaves a couple of furlongs off of that effort which could pull him back into contention.

The other that warrants a look is FRED who is relatively unexposed. He will be making his first start as a 3-year-old having been away from 381 days.

But he had a fantastic time as a juvenile, winning a couple of times at 7f. He’s worth some considerations.

Race Favourite

The race favourite is EL PRESENTE at 9/4* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020) currently in the market.

What gives him claims here is a course and distance win that he secured in July on his most recent run.

He does pay a price of a 9lb rise for that score though. He seems to have benefitted from wind surgery.

It’s a mixed record over the fences from him having started with a promising fourth place at Huntington, before not even getting to the finish line in his following two efforts.

The positives from the recent return though (his win was by 17 lengths) are there.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

One of the biggest threats to the favourite in this contest is POTTERMAN. He scored three times over the fences last season, so has a little bit of extra experience.

After getting hampered out of contention on his return at the Summer Plate at Market Rasen, he showed his quality with a clean run and a second-place at Bangor.

MORE BUCK’S is the other name that we will pull for this race. There are inconsistencies there, buton his day he is more than capable and he’s bottom of the weights as well.

More Buck’s was fourth in the Summer Plate at the venue and followed that up with a third at Stratford 10 days ago.

Race Favourite

Heading the current market is SPACE WALK at 7/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). He has shown some very good form since his return to action.

After a third-place on his reappearance he stepped it up big time to secure his first handicap success at Haydock in July and that was at 16f. Space Walk looks to have the leading claims in this contest, even with dealing with a 5lb rise.

PERFECT ARCH goes into his fourth racetrack appearance and we like the look of what he brings to the table.

He was third on his first effort as a 3-year-old, and there is likely to be some fair improvement from him as he comes in with the cheekpieces for the first time.

FRONTISPIECE is the other pick of ours for this race. On his reappearance following wind surgery, he scored a very good second at Newmarket in July.

Notably, he scored a couple of times last season at Newbury with Sunday’s jockey. Therefore he has to enter calculations.

The early market leader for this one is KIMIFIVE who claims 3lb for Cieren Fallon and is the 7/1 FAV* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). He has done a lot of good work this season.

Kimifive rattled the crossbar on his last run as well, just missing out on the score by a head against Summerghand at Goodwood. That too was a 6f trip and it was a huge field of 27 as well.

Put all that together and there is plenty of reason to expect him to be in the frame, having won three times before from 6f to 7f in these types of conditions.

STAXTON should enter the fray again after scoring on his last trip That was over course and distance notably, so he enters the calculations.

He just edged Watchable by a nose in that one. Staxton has won five times at 6f so is no mug. It’s a slightly tougher ask than last time out, but he’s still fairly well treated.

DAKOTA GOLD scored the win in this trip last year. He is coming back into a handicap here after knocking around in some very good company.

There was a struggle for him in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes last time out, but this should be a little easier.

The other that we will look at is CITRON MAJOR who scored recently at course and distance.

He was back at the same trip last time out when he was down the field, five lengths back of winner Staxton. He gets the visor back on, which he had on for his recent C&D.

This should be a cracking race and heading the market for it is CAROLINE DALE at 7/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). She easily sets the standard for this one.

She has fared well in all four starts so far and notably has excelled in some big challenges at the Royal Ascot Queen Mary and the Princess Margaret Stakes. Coming back down to the 5f trip is going to suit her and she is the one to beat.

SARDINIA SUNSET looks in great shape to launch an attack on this race. She didn’t get herself together at all for his last appearance which was at the Molecomb.

But the form before that, which saw her score in a York Listed race, is what we have to pay attention too. That last race can be excused.

The other that we like is the unbeaten BLACKBERRY, an exciting filly.

It has been two wins from two and while she is coming up in class here, she looks like the bold type to have a go at this company. She makes for an interesting each-way punt on the day.
