Race Favourite

The race favourite is ALNADAM at 9/4* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020). This will be his reappearance run as he steps forward to chase action.

He scored a win over the hurdles last season and is a former point winner as well. The last time that he was seen was in a novice handicap hurdle at Hereford in March.

Alnadam was a well-supported favourite in that one and duly delivered. In this small field he has some very reasonable claims on his chasing bow.

BARON DE MIDLETON though is going to be our pick at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020).

He has had a chasing debut and looks ready to flourish on a longer trip.

In that debut he was fifth placed over only 2m, which wasn’t right for him. But still, under the circumstances it was a credible run from him.

That is a huge benefit that he will have had under his belt, that bit of chase experience.

The final name for the shortlist will have to be MINELLA TRUMP. He looks a good fit for a chasing career and won a couple of novice events in 2019.

He was demoted from first place in a contest at Bangor in February as well by the stewards, but looks in great shape to mount a bold challenge.

Race Favourite

Heading up this small field as the favourite is ESPOIR DE ROMAY at 6/5* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020). He was coming along very well as a novice hurdle and should be able to push forward.

During his break he has had wind surgery which would help as well. Espoir De Romay was last seen at Cheltenham in the Martin Pipe.

He was well below par in that one, the racing following a score that he had taken at Wincanton. He’s back refreshed and receives 10lb for his chasing debut.

He looks to be the one that sets the standard here.

SENIOR CITIZEN turns up for last year’s winning stable. Not only that, he struck a reappearance win on the broad a month ago.

That was on a run at Newton Abbot and wasn’t tested that hard in it. He looks a better fit for chasing than hurdling. How much will that recent effort though, play to his favour in this one? He warrants respect.

The final pick for the small field will be GATEWAY TO EUROPE who is a nice reliable sort. It’s been awhile since he’s touched a win however.

But through the summer he was battling along in handicap hurdle action and kept rattling the crossbar.

It was a third place finish at Plumpton on his last trip. He returns to cheek pieces for this contest.

The race favourite for this one is BATHIVA at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020).

He will be coming back into action looking to pick up where he left off at the end of last season.

He made a big step forward to score on his second go over the fences. That was at Taunton in March. Bathiva hasn’t been harshly treated for this contest and he goes for a new yard for the first time.

He does gain 10lb in the rating, a few of which have been shaved off for a claimer. There is enough there to expect him to be in the frame in this one as he shows for Fergal O’Brien for the first time.

LOTS OF LUCK looks to be a big danger to the favourite in this field. He posted a win on his reappearance run at Ffos Las.

He looked for all the world to be a big improver, especially having had wind surgery during the break.

This is a very good progressive horse and following that score a couple of weeks ago, he takes on another 9lb.

He goes as our pick at 9/4* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020).

The final selection for the shortlist is WENCESLAUS who has a 5lb claimer. He made a pleasing appearance at Uttoxeter a month ago.

He was a runner up in this contest and has plenty of promising chasing action behind him. He won three times last year after switching.

Wencelsaus starts as the same mark for his recent win so has to enter calculations.

SECRET REPRIEVE narrowly heads up the market here at 9/2* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020). He signed off in action last season with back to back runners up finishes.

He was in good shape in general over the fences last winter. He is now coming into handicapping here and there should be even more to come from him.

The last run that he was was in December last year in a Haydock chase. We expect a bold run.

This looks like quite a warm contest. LIES ABOUT MILAN should be in the rframe as well having had wind surgery. He was coming along extremely well last season in hurdles and on a switch to chasing.

He claimed a second place finish in a maiden chase last winter. The former Irish point winner has a big chance on his return and moves into handicapping.

SALTY BOY and TIME TO GET UP both look fairly evenly matched and both extremely good prospects for this contest as well.

Salty Boy took on a couple of maiden chase contests at the end of last season and looked promising for it.

Time To Get Up will probably take a lot of support showing for Jonjo O’Neill for the first time. He’s been away for 11 months, but retains huge promise.

IMPERIAL AURA is the 13/8 race favourite for this Listed fixture* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020).

He gets the tongue strap on for this one and showed a tremendous amount of promise at the back end of last season.

The 7 year old scored well in a 20f handicap at Cheltenham in Listed company as well. He was brilliantly consistent in the last campaign for Kim Bailey.

There should be a lot more to come from him here. Imperial Aura has gotten better each time that he has been in action.

Following his win at the Cheltenham Festival, he was hit hard by the assessor. 14lbs in fact. But regardless, he looks a major threat here in what will be his fifth go over the fences.

BLACK OP showed very well in some graded efforts last session. It’s been the best part of a year since he was last seen.

The last fixture he had was in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day at the 3m distance. He took second place there to Slate House.

Black Op retains a tremendous amount of potential and he is still relatively low mileage.

The other name that is likely to be a key player in this contest is BREWIN’UPASTORM. He was last in action at the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

He unsated his rider on that occasion, but can’t be dismissed at all. Bewin’upastorm was in cracking form prior to that, having racked up a couple of chase wins. The first of those was here at Carlile.

SOJOURN is the 7/2 race favourite* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 19:48 GMT on Saturday, 31st October 2020).

It has been an 11-month absence from him which is quite a time to overcome. He signed off last season with a switch to chasing in his last two efforts.

He got off the mark on his chase debut with a 3m score at Market Rasen, before taking a runner up spot at Chepstow.

He is unexposed still in this sphere but he looks as if he gets himself into the frame if he pushes that progress forward.

SAM’S ADVENTURE is the other obvious pick to get on the shortlist. He posted a career best win at the end of last season when he scored in a 3m chase at Uttoxeter.

It is an 8lb rise in the rating that he takes for this bigger test of stamina. But we feel that he can handle that and Very First Time will also get the cheek pieces back on.

The other obvious pick in this contest is VERY FIRST TIME. He has had a reappearance run under his belt. He really caught the eye at Perth on his run under handicapping.

It was a good run, tenderly treated on his reappearance to take third. He comes down 2lb and that should make a big, big threat in his field.
