LAST SURPRISE is the 5/2 favourite for this trip at Pontefract on Thursday* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

She put in a career best effort last time out, landing a win at Kempton at this distance.

She is 3lb higher in the rating for that, but should be kept on side for this contest.

That is two wins in her last four runs now and while she hasn’t quite replicated her all-weather form on the tuf, this is the kind of field in which she should have bold claims.

STORMY GIRL should be a big player in this field after having a dabble in a course and distance Listed fixture two races ago.

She scored in that run and then followed up with another excellent effort to take 6th of 15 at the Sceptre Stakes. She makes her handicap debut, but she hasn’t been let off lightly.

GALA FORCE MAYA is a good, consistent performer and she is looking good again in this campaign. She is a previous course and distance winner as well.

On her most recent run she took a second place finish from a field of 11 at Thirsk at 7f. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see her back in the frame at all as she comes back into action.

SPIRIT DANCER is lining up as the 9/4 outright favourite for this Ayr Handicap which is for the Kilkerran Cup* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

The progressive youngster looks set for some big things and broke his maiden just over two weeks ago.

That success happened in a 10f maiden at Ripon and he had plenty of power and pace to finish off that race comprehensively with.

Coming into handicap conditions in this one he has been entered on a good mark, so he should be a big player.

GLASSES UP is one to watch in the market as well as all of the six victories that he has posted in his career has happened at Ayr (five at C&D).

That should get him plenty of backing in the market for this race. He has scored in three of his last six runs, so there are no issues with his form.

Glasses Up was last seen at York in a field of 19, posting fourth in the handicap effort 11 days ago and warrants big respect at 11/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

The longer trip may well play to the strengths of JUST HISS on Thursday. He was in a Ripon handicap 17 days ago, taking on a mile.

There was a fourth place finish from him there, which was a credible effort from him. It followed a win at the same venue in his previous race. Just Hiss is one for the shortlist.

Heading up this small field is BODYLINE at 13/8 odds* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

He hasn’t gotten a win on the board yet this season from four attempts, but has rattled the crossbar a couple of times.

He doesn’t look to be too far away from a score however, but will need to step it back up after a poor run in the Melrose at York last time out.

Overall though he is a better performer than that and trainer Sir Mark Prescott goes with the cheekpieces for the first time for Bodyline.

Another who has had some near-misses this season is GAS MONKEY who has taken three consecutive runners-up finishes.

He was a four time winner last year and it likely won’t be long before he gets on the board again.

One of those previous wins did happen at Yarmouth and while he goes up in distance, beyond 1m 4f for the first time, he’s one for the shortlist.

C’EST NO MOUR is in top shape at the moment and should be another of the leading contenders here. He has been in the frame in each of his last four runs, winning two of those.

On his last trip he was a runner up at Goodwood, producing some sparkling form there. He could be the one to beat and goes as our tip at 4/1 odds* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

It is CITY WALK who is heading up the field for this Yarmouth Handicap at 5/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

He was only a sixth-place finisher last time out, but the conditions were not in his favour for that one.

Taking that into consideration, he was only 5 lengths back of the winner at Bath. In his penultimate race, he had gotten off the mark at the same venue.

If the ground stays towards the firmer ground the more of a player that CITY WALK is going to be in this contest.

MOKAATIL finished in the middle of the pack at Ascot on his last trip from a field of 19. It was a respectable run, but it didn’t quite see him live up to expectations there.

Before that he was really trending towards some top form. He gets the cheekpieces back on now and he’s probably worth forgiving for that Ascot run.

EQUITATION is very interesting for this field as he is only 2lb above his last winning mark. He is a former course and distance winner.

On his last run, he was third from last at Ascot, but Equitation was running very well for quite a while in that trip. He is capable of putting things together with a good tactical approach from jockey Andrea Atzeni.

The 7/4 favourite is FULL AUTHORITY* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

It has been a decent return to action from the lightly raced winner. It has been two runs, two third-place finishes from him in this campaign.

The most recent of those was at Kempton 16 days ago and he was looking good in that fixture too.

It was also his handicap debut under Sir Michael Stoute, so there should be more to come from him. Full Authority gets the tongue strap for the first time. He’s on a fair mark and should be on the shortlist.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

EXTROINAIR likes a run on the Polytrack at Chelmsford City having won on his last two visits there.

So he is in ripe form at the moment, but the distance is up and the class is up for this one. So he is going to have to find a little more.

But he’s a quick runner and may well be able to overcome all of that for a bold run with the hattrick in sight.

TROPICS will come into the frame because of the step back up to the 6f trip in this one. He didn’t have the pace in him on his last effort, which was at 5f, getting outpaced at the finish.

Tropics has won five times before at Chelmsford City and he looks to be on an excellent workable mark for this one.
