It is BREGUET BOY who is the current 3/1 market leader for this handicap at Ayr, the first race of our Thursday UK racing preview* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020).

He delivered a career best of a score at Hamilton on his last run, which was just over a couple of weeks ago.

It has been a fine, consistent season from Breguet Boy who is expected to be in the frame against. He is coming back up in trip after a mile effort last time.

Given that his recent score was done relatively easily, it’s expected that he will be there or thereabouts in this one. Breguet Boy is up 3lb in the ratings and this is a tougher test than he had last time out.

GRANITE CITY DOC will be our pick for the race at 5/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020).

That’s because he gets the cheek pieces on for the first time and was over course and distance last time out. That was nine days ago when he claimed second place. He has some serious claims.

AYR POET has been progressing along nicely for the reason and there was more good form from him recently.

Ayr Poet claimed fourth place at Hamilton just over a week ago so he still looks sharp enough to pull together some place claims.

It has been three wins in his last five runs and has to be respected.

He rattled the crossbar last time out. It was a third place finish at Nottingham for him on his last appearance, which was 11 days ago.

He gets the blinkers on for the first time now and he doesn’t look far away from a score at all. He has been right in the frame in all but one of his last six races now.

After only being narrowly denied up in a class 2 handicap last time out, we have to select him as our pick.

JOHN KIRKUP could be one to watch in the fixture. He needs a bounce-back run here after failing to impress over course and distance recently.

That was a bit of a blip on his current form however, because he is another that has found a lot of good form in this campaign. Place claims are there at the very least.

The other nomination for the shortlist will have to be WASNTEXPECTINGTHAT who has had a rough hand dealt by the assessor.

But he’s a quality horse and while the ratings caught up with him last time out, he’d been in the top two in his five previous runs. He’s good enough to shake off a disappointing Ayr Silver Cup effort.

A bit of chase action is next up for our tips and the favourite for this one is LORD BRYAN at 11/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020).

He looks like a good selection as well. Just a couple of weeks ago he went very close at Uttoxeter.

That second place finish was the best performance of the season for him and there were indications just before that about a return to form.

So he is worth keeping on side for this one. All that he has gone up is 1lb in the ratings, so he’s off a fine mark to launch a bold run after his recent work. Lord Bryan has enough to be our pick.

It is hard though to take a pass on DELL’ ARCA after a good third place last time out. His last run was 47 days ago in a handicap chase at Uttoxeter.

It’s been a while since he has won though, not having scored since 2018. It’s just that factor which stops him from being our pick for the race.

NOTAROLEMODEL was coming along nicely last season over the fences. It’s been three wins over the fences for him so far.

He’s been away for seven months, so we probably wouldn’t put out more than palce claims for him.

But if he handles coming back refreshed in what will be just his second trip since wind surgery, he can knock on the door.

Heading up the market for this one is GA LAW at 9/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020).

The unexposed youngster claimed a debut juvenile win. On his reappearance he showed up very well to claim a win at Fontwell.

That was in a field of three only, so will need to prove himself a bit more there. But on the switch to fences he looked good after getting off the mark over the hurdles.

Still, even though he was only in a field of three last time, he got the better of a couple of good opponents there. He is worth a look on his handicap debut.

SOLAR IMPULSE is up only 3lb from a win in his penultimate race. That was at Southwell which means that he should have claims here.

The win was back in August and since then he has been out once more. That was another good run from him to claim third place at Perth.

Solar Impulse should easily be in the picture and gets the nod from us at 13/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020).

The other pick for the shortlist will be CELTIC JOY who is coming back from a long absence. He made a chase debut at Kempton a year ago, landing a win on that occasion.

He followed that up with a second place in his follow up effort. His last run didn’t see him at his best, and this will be his first run since February. Still, he piques some interest.

This looks to be an ideal situation for Six Strings in terms of conditions and handicapping, so there’s a chance he will get close to a score.

His last run was three weeks ago when he was down the field at Pontefract. His form has been going backwards, but this is a chance to respond.

It is EQUIDAE who has to be the pick for us however at 5/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:05 GMT on Wednesday, 7th October 2020). That is because in his penultimate race he scored over course and distance.

It was a commanding success as well. He is up 5lb which looks a little harsh for this fixture.

But he’s good enough to snap back after failing to get in the frame at Ayr on his last run. Equidae is a three time winner at Southwell.

The final one for the shortlist will have to be LIGHT LILY. She isn’t the most consistent of sorts, but there have been a couple of promising efforts in her last four runs, securing two wins in that sequence.

Her last win was at Yarmouth in August. She didn’t get a clear run at Wolverhampton on her last trip and needs to be respected.

JACK THE TRUTH has won his last two efforts so is in top form at the moment. He does get a 5lb penalty.

His last run was seven days ago over course and distance and he was keeping on well there. He does have to handle a penalty, but should be a player. Jack The Truth does enough to be our pick.

TOP BREEZE posted a superb second place finish in a Bath handicap just over three weeks ago. He has a 7lb claimer on his back to help him out on this one. Top Breeze has consistently performed on all-weather, winning three of five.

QUEEN’S ORDER could find herself in the picture in this one as well. She has produced some consistent effort recently, having been in the places in three of her last four.

It is blinkers for the first time for her in this one and needs to be kept on the shortlist.

BENNY AND THE JETS can’t be ruled out of this contest either with Oisin Murphy booked for the trip. On his last run he was third of six over course and distance a month ago.

But could be sharper and with Murphy could have a chance at the money spots.
