The race favourite for this opening fixture of our racing preview is VULCAN at 9/4* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

He is sitting on a hat trick after having hit a purple patch of form.

The latest win for Vulcan was at Haydock three weeks ago. That was handicap action in a field of 12. Vulcan does claim 7lb for jockey Saffie Osborne in this one as well.

With the rise in form comes rising pressure from the handicapper. But he appears to still be in a good place right now and should be on the shortlist.

There is BALZAC as well who warrants a look. He is low mileage and got off the mark at the second time of asking. That was at Newbury in July.

Balzac enters the handicapping sphere for the first time and looks to be on a very favourable mark.

This will be just his third racetrack appearance and he is with a new yard now.

It will be the second run since wind surgery too and he goes as our pick from 9/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

From the position that he found himself in at the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket at the end of September, KRYPTOS never had a shot.

But he is taking a drop in class here and should find the going a lot more to his favour in a smaller field as well.

He was starting to put together some good form before that last outright got the better of him.

VIVIONN is a narrow 7/2 favourite for this contest* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

This looks like a super wide open contest though. It’s likely that she will give a good account of herself on the back of her current form.

It has been back to back runners-up spots for the Sir Micahel Stoute-trained filly. She was last seen in that position at the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster just over a month ago.

She was beaten by PISTA in that one. Vivionn has been up against some really tough players this season.

Franking her form a bit was PISTA going on to claim a place in a Group 1 fixture. Vivionn is a wonderful filly and rightly should be one that is kept inside.

TRAISHA needs to be looked at as well. In her penultimate run, she collected a second place finish at this distance. That was at Naas in a Group 3 effort as well.

That continued some very good opening form from her. Traisha was sixth on her most recent effort, but that was down to distance.

She looked a little beyond her limit in a 2m trip in a Group 3 at Curragh. So the drop in trip is likely to have a positive effect.

URBAN ARTIST has all the tools necessary to make her presence felt in this one. The mare, who is a listed bumper winner, has been coming on leaps and bounds.

Her upward curve of form is steep at the moment having won her last three. She was last in action 11 days ago when she scored and had La Lune behind her in third place.

This is the top race of the day and DAKOTA GOLD is the top pick for it at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

He is such a good sprinter and romped to an easy success at York on the weekend.

That win happened in the Bengough Stakes. It was his second win of the season having scored previously at Beverely.

Dakota Gold is a big player here with 11 race wins from 5f to 6f on varying ground. He has been in the picture in each of his last four runs now.

The question marks over his chances of landing another win will be the short rest, and that he is giving weight to all of the other runners here. Still, place claims are there at the very, very least.

ALJADY is a tremendous runner as well and a switch to Robert Cowell has brought the best out of him.

He scored on his last trip, collecting a win at Beverley three weeks ago over the 5f distance.

That was the third win of the season for Aljady and it gave him back to back successes as well.

He will be a tempting option for punters to go and secure that hattrick.

We are just going to side with ALJADY at 9/2 given Dakota Gold’s quick turnaround* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

We are a little torn where to go next for our final shortlist selection. But we are just going to go with Aljady’s stablemate BLUE DE VEGA over MOSS GILL.

The former won in some heavy conditions at Leicester on his last run. That’s four wins in his last six runs now. He’s in superb form at the moment and warrants some respect.

This is a field of 15 and the market leader is SKY PIRATE at 4/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020). He will be making his return for the first time since December last year.

He finished the last campaign with back to back runners up places. Sky Pirate is a dual hurdles winner and during his long break he has had wind surgery.

He also got the tongue strap for this effort. Sky Pirate was in this race a year ago but fell. Up until that point, he was travelling well with intent.

Another option for this competitive handicap is ALMAZHAR GARDE. He is also coming back from a long absence, but news to be kept on side.

He looks to have a lot of progress still in him after scoring twice as a novice last season.

The last run that he had was in March when he battled to an excellent fifth place in soft conditions at Kempton. That is in a big field as well.

ANother with some great potential at this level is SCHIEHALLION MUNRO who got some experience over the fences in the last campaign.

He hasn’t been out since January but he scored in that final effort. That happened at Catterick over 2m 3f and it was his second on the bounce.

He has been carrying on in some really good heart this season.

That culminated in a win at Wolverhampton 11 days ago. He is coming on really well as a sprinter now and the colt should be back in the frame.

Full Authority has gone up 6lb for his recent upswing in form. Further progression should be coming and we have to have him as our pick.

DESERT DOCTOR is a former course and distance winner. His last run was a month ago when he went to Chelmsford City. That was at the 6f distance.

It was a run after six months away from the track. So that should have increased his form and chances ahead of this one and he needs to be considered for the shortlist.

Our other selection for this race is MOTAGALLY. He is another sprinter that is in good form at the moment.

A month ago he was last in action and he just eased himself clear to land the score. That was at Bath, a career best for him. Place claims are certainly there.

He is a previous course winner. He was in action here on his last race as well.

Just a week ago Alfmuti claimed a third place finish in a field of 14 under handicap terms at Kempton. So he may be able to make his presence felt in this wide open contest.

SHAMAROON has to be the pick for this one however at 10/3* (betting odds taken from Betway at 20:48 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October 2020).

He comes into his handicap debut and at a mark of 85 should be a big player. He is a huge threat after getting off the mark at the third time of asking, winning at Chelmsford in September.

HIERONYMUS will have to have some appeal for this race as well. He is a former course and distance winner and has taken two wins from five this season.

On his last effort, he was third at Ascot in a field of eight. That was just under a couple of weeks ago and does pique some interest on a return to Kempton.
