Race Favourite

The race favourite is HORTZADAR at 11/4 to kick off our Wednesday racing review* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

He put in an impressive victory at Ripon in August, which was delivered from not having been that well-positioned in the race.

He is dealing with a 3lb rise for this contest, so that’s probably not going to be enough to slow him up.

Hortzadar came from a long way back in that one to get the win but he still looked as if he had more running in him. Another bold bid is expected from him at Goodwood. Hortzadar is our pick for the race.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

PLANTADREAM looks to be in solid shape at the moment after scoring on his last trip. He went down in grade to get that at Ascot earlier in September and the race went to his favour there. But regardless he looked game and will be looking to confirm that form in a stiffer contest.

DAWAAM has been very lightly raced, but still could be a key player in this race. He has only been out twice since his last win was at Wolverhampton in October last year.

His most recent run was at Kempton in early September after three months ago, finishing in the middle of a pack of ten. He’s very interesting if he can push on from that.

Race Favourite

The race favourite for the Foundation Stakes is BULLFINCH at 9/4 odds* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020). He is sitting on a four-timer as he appears at Goodwood on Wednesday.

He completed his hattrick less than three weeks ago when he scored in a Kempton handicap.

Bullfinch dominated the race and even though he is taking on an extra step up in class, BULLFINCH has some leading claims.

He is certainly on the up at the moment and we think that he is the clear one to beat, so will be our pick for this Goodwood contest.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

AIR PILOT though does pique plenty of interest for this fixture and he won last year’s renewal of this very race.

He won last year’s edition refreshed as well from a long break and that is where the now 11-year-old is at, not having raced for 10 months. The veteran is worth a market check.

The other pick for this interesting race is ANNA NERIUM who is a former course winner. She has won three times at Group 3 and handles herself pretty well on downhill courses and so we think that she warrants some interest out at 8/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020). Will she handle the longer trip?

It’s a small field and heading up the betting market for it is MAKAWEE at 6/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

It has been pretty solid form from her recently and in her penultimate race was third during the Ebor meeting at York.

She followed that up with a fifth-place, but only by three lengths then at Doncaster in the Park Hill.

She is taking a drop in class for this and in such a small field, she looks to be a good fit. She’s a game mare and has stacks of consistency on her side as well.

TRIBAL CRAFT won in July at Kempton and on the back of that she went up to Listed company at Newbury.

That looked to be tough beyond her and she struggled to get into the race, but returned to action in her last effort with a good run to take fourth of fifth by only three lengths at Haydock.

VINDOLANDA looks a good fit for this trip and she looked to have rediscovered some very good form when she scored at Haydock in her second race back in action.

On her last effort, she battled well to take second place at Chester and cannot be written out of this either.

This is a good testing trip at Perth and it is I’D BETTER GO NOW who is the 13/8 current favourite for the race* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

He will be making his first run since March when he signed off in style. The score that I’d Better Go Now took at Doncaster in that race of his was superb, the best of his career so far.

It followed up a returning win in a handicap debut at Wincanton after wind surgery. He should be a big player in this one even though he is up 10lb in the ratings.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

TEESCOMPONENTS LAD is one of a few making a return in this one and looking good value as well. He picked up a win at Catterick in January after having gone down the weights.

In his one race since then, he seemed to be beaten by a shorter trip than anything else. It’s a long absence, but he’s a threat if sharp on his return.

JUSTATENNER has had a reappearance run and it was a good effort as well to take third place at Uttoxeter.

He’s a good solid performer and reliable enough to warrant some place claims anyway. He’s down 1lb from his last trip and it’ll be no surprise to see him go well.

MIGHTY THUNDER is another well-rated horse that we have to consider for the shortlist as well. He was very good over the second half of last season.

He has won over course and distance, getting one last year and on his last run he finished runner up at Musselburgh in another good effort.

Mighty Thunder will be going from a 4lb higher mark from his last run and is 16lb in total from when he scored this race last year.

It’s Mighty Thunder who just gets the nod from us at 7/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

He is coming down in class and has Richard Johnson in the saddle and has to be taken seriously for this trip.

As a novice, he put a couple of Grade 1 wins on the board. La Bague Au Roi never quite followed it up last season as he went without a win, but still performed with a fair amount of credit.

He’s fresh from a long absence and he will have to defy top weight. But he should have leading claims because of his drop in class.

JARVEY’S PLATE could well be a player in this contest as well. Last season he put a good win on the board refreshed from a long break, taking the win on his chase debut. He couldn’t quite follow it up, but he’s on a more appealing mark than that favourite.

BAFANA BLUE will turn up at Perth in very good spirits and from 6/1 is enough to tempt us* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

We like that he has had a reappearance run, and that was over course and distance a couple of weeks ago when he took second. Based on that, big claims are there.

AMIR KABIR is the 9/4 favourite for this run* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020).

He has taken two wins in his last three runs, including on his last trip. That was a 6-runner handicap just under a month ago at Newmarket.

He bossed the race there and is a very good all-weather performer. So he will bring some leading claims without questions.

Even though this looks to be a very competitive race, he may be tough to knock over and he gets the nod from us.

The unexposed LUNCIES is worth keeping an eye on in this fixture as well. He was keeping on well in his last effort, just his third racetrack appearance a few weeks ago.

Luncies scored a win in a Haydock handicap in that and that showed promise of further progress to come from her.

STAR OF WINS warrants some respect as well for this one after just missing out on a hat-trick on his last run. He was a beaten favourite at Yarmouth in a field of four just over a week ago.

But it has been two wins from five runs for this campaign and this looks to be an easier trip than what he encountered last time out as well.
