No shortage of special markets on offer for the US Masters

Coral are paying out on the first 10 places for each-way purposes at this week’s US Masters and that is just one of the almost countless specials tempting punters ahead of the first golfing Major of the season.

Maybe it’s because the Masters is played on the same course every year that makes it such a big event for golfing enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. Other Majors tend to be spread about the country but the Augusta National has been the home of the Masters since it was first stage in 1934. It was known as the Augusta National Invitational back then but it was just five years before the title US Masters was adopted.

The first of the famous Green Jackets was awarded to Sam Snead in 1949 but there have only been 35 individual wearers of golfing’s most famous attire, even though the tournament celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. Another legendary figure, Jack Nicklaus, won it six times between 1964 and 1986 and is also the oldest recorded winner at more than 46. Tiger Woods is the youngest winner of the US Masters at 21 years and three months and also holds the record for the lowest-ever four round score and the biggest winning margin, 12 strokes. Tiger, now 42, will be bidding for a fifth Master title this year but his last victory at Augusta came in 2005 and that long wait for a tournament win of any description goes on, though he’s only 10/3 with Coral for a top five finish.

Betway will pay you out as a winner if your ante-post selection is at the top of the leaderboard after the opening 18 holes, as long as you have staked between £5 and £20 in a win single or each-way bet, but you can have a wager on the first-round leader with most bookmakers independently if you want a quick return. Woods is a general 20/1 with Justin Rose, so unlucky not to win overall last year, at the same odds.

Rose is a best 16/1 to go one better at the final day this year with Betfred and Boylesports will give you money back as a free bet if your selection in the outright betting for the US Masters finishes second or third (up to £20). England’s Justin Rose is second only to Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy in the betting to be Top European at Augusta over four rounds (a best 9/2) and ahead of Paul Casey and Jon Rahm (both a best 15/2). Ian Poulter, who only qualified for the tournament thanks to victory in last week’s Houston Open, is a general 18/1 in the same market but I have counted more than 80 different betting markets which can be accessed.
