New kid on the block may be Flushing Meadows value

New world number one Rafa Nadal is a best 11/4 to celebrate his resurgence with victory in the US Open, which starts at Flushing Meadow next week.

Having suffered in the rankings due to injury in 2014 and 2015, it’s somewhat ironic that the Spaniard owes his elevation to the world number one spot because of injuries to previous incumbents Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. But he has performed well in the Grand Slams this year, reaching the final in Melbourne and winning a 10th French Open title in Paris at the start of the summer. He lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon but has won twice in New York in the past, in 2010 and 2013, though hasn’t got past the third round in his last two visits to the Big Apple.

Djokovic won’t play again this year so Roger Federer is the bookmakers’ general 6/4 favourite for the US Open Men’s Singles as he bids to win the tournament for a sixth time.

Now 36, the Swiss picks and chooses his tournaments nowadays but was always going to play this hardcourt event. Federer won Wimbledon for seventh time last month and came back from a break down in the final set to beat Nadal in an epic Melbourne final in January. But his preparations have been interrupted as he was beaten in the final of the Montreal Masters by the up-and-coming Alexander Zverev and forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters with a back injury.

Zverev could be the value at 8/1 with several layers, including Unibet, in this year’s US Open.

Unibet are one of Europe’s biggest betting operators and they have built their reputation on quality products, great odds and innovative approaches to online betting.

The Swedish company, with more than 2.5million customers worldwide, offer plenty of live streams and they can boast one of the coolest and most extensive live in-play betting portals around. Throw in a spattering of great promotions on a regular basis and you have a solid overall product with Unibet.

Unibet also offer a £30 welcome bonus offer for new customers.

This is a risk-free first wager offer inviting you to get started with them and it is easy to get your hands on. Simply follow one of our links and sign up with the bookmaker and get the “Bonus Money” refunded up to £30 if your first bet loses!

You can bet on a wide variety of sports to trigger this offer, and you don’t need any code for it or anything. Basically if your first bet loses you get the bonus and you can them withdraw your stake as well as any winnings from subsequent bets after completing the following requirements.

To get your refunded stake withdrawn, you need to wager your bonus money 3 times over. So, for example if your first bet of £10 loses, Unibet will credit you £10 instantly as bonus money. You need to place three subsequent bets of £10 to make your original stake and all associated winnings withdrawable. Only bets with odds of 2/5 or higher count.

Zverev has yet to get beyond the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam but the German’s time is coming. Still only 20, he’s established himself in the world’s top 10 this year as a result of victories in the Italian Open and in Montreal. With doubts surrounding the top players, Zverev has a real opportunity to make inroads in New York.

Andy Murray is already in the USA but will have to see how his troublesome hip responds to practice and further treatment before deciding whether or not to take his chance in the US Open. The Scot has lost his world number one ranking not having played since losing his Wimbledon quarter-final to Sam Querrey. He is, of course, a former winner and has only failed to reach the quarter-finals at least in one of the last six years at Flushing Meadows but Unibet’s 10/1 is a reflection of the worries regarding his current well-being.
