Keep Wondering the frontrunner

5-year-old Keep Wondering will be heading to Uttoxeter after back to back place finishes having been recorded. The first was at Aintree at the start of November in Class 4 company where he took a second-place finish. Then a month later he was on show at Haydock where he had to settle for a distant third. But that was at the extra weight in that second effort and he was beaten favourite. The Philip Hobbs-trained gelding does look a good prospect though in this company.

Star of Rory arrives with form

Irish gelding Star of Rory comes to town with form behind him. He delivered a win in early December at Leicester over 2m 4f. That was over heavy going and it gave him his second win in three runs. Last year he paid a visit to Uttoxeter twice and struggled to get any kind of form going. Those were in much shorter races, however, and is better above the 2m mark. Because he has the distance from behind him, as well as coming back into action after a win at 9/1, he should be in the picture.

Can Any Drama or Aliandy get in the frame?

Aliandy has won at the distance before however, that success was over three years ago and is barely notable for the 8-year-old. He did show good form in his most recent run-out however taking a second-place finish of 12 from an 11/1 SP over the hurdles at Warwick.

Any Drama has come up with two hurdle wins at around this distance between 2m and 2m 5f. So this is an ideal distance for him. But like Aliandy, the last time that he had a taste of success was a while ago. Over two years ago in fact. In his last outing at Newbury, he trailed home last over a 3 mile, which will have either sharpened him up or tired him.

Informateur the one to watch – if he shows

Informateur claimed a recent course and distance win. That was back towards the end of November in a field of nine in a Class 4 run on soft going. He worked again in early December where he produced a good second-place finish at Haydock and was just out on Monday again at Haydock, putting in another solid run at the same track to claim fourth. That was quite the tough slog, however, and may not show up at Uttoxeter. If he does, he could have decent claims to place.

Predictions

Keep Wondering didn’t live up to his billing of favourite last time out, but will prefer this distance. This is his first run under Rules as well and he has been lightly raced so should be in with a decent shout. Star of Rory is the other with some appeal in this one. He has been handled well with runs at Warwick and Leicester. He arrives in good form and could be worth backing to take on the favourite.
