Valencia News and Form – Can Los Ches cause an upset in Jeddah?

After winning the Copa del Rey last season under the guidance of Marcelino Garcia Toral, Valencia booked their place in the new-look Spanish Super Cup. Los Ches had a wonderful cup campaign, beating Barcelona in the final in Seville in May.

Valencia have had a topsy-turvy season so far, with Albert Celades taking over in September. Still, the club are sitting nicely in sixth spot in La Liga at the minute, winning eight of their 19 games. The Oranges have drawn seven and lost four of the other 11.

Valencia caused a big upset in Spain by winning the Copa del Rey last season, especially when they beat strong favourites Barcelona in the May final. That was the club’s eighth Copa del Rey trophy and their first for over a decade. Can Los Ches cause another shock by beating Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to book their place in the Spanish Super Cup final on January 12th?

Valencia vs Real Madrid Head to Head

When these two teams met in La Liga last month, they drew 1-1 at the Mestalla – Karim Benzema equalised for Real in injury time

Los Ches are unbeaten in two against Los Blancos, winning one and drawing one

Valencia have won just one of the last six

This will be the first cup meeting between Valencia and Real Madrid for almost seven years

Key-Facts – Valencia vs Real Madrid

  • Valencia have lost only one of their past 12 in all competitions
  • Real Madrid have been beaten just once since September
  • Both sides started 2020 with league wins

Real Madrid News and Form – Will Los Blancos book their place in the final?

Real Madrid secured their spot in the new-look Super Cup by finishing third behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in La Liga last season. As Barca are represented twice, the final spot goes to Real. Los Blancos had an indifferent league campaign last term, finishing a whopping 19 points behind the eventual champions.

Things have gone much better for Real Madrid so far this season, though, as Los Blancos are joint level with Barcelona at the top, with Blaugrana just ahead on goal difference. Overall, Zinedine Zidane’s men have won 11, drawn seven and lost just once. They are unbeaten in 14 in all competitions, but they have won only one of their last four.

Real Madrid will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy in Saudi Arabia next week. If they do, it will be Los Merengues’ 11th Supercopa de Espana crown.

Valencia vs Real Madrid Predictions

Real Madrid win: Zidane’s troops are the unsurprising favourites in Wednesday’s clash in Jeddah. Madrid have been far more competitive in La Liga this season, and they could push Barcelona all the way in the title race.

Valencia had a fine season last time around, finishing the league campaign just seven points adrift of Real and winning the Copa del Rey. However, although they have been hard to beat in recent months, this will be a tall order for Celades’ troops.

Each side were on target in the league meeting in the Mestalla in December, and I’m backing Real to win and both teams to score on Wednesday, which is available at 5/2. Also, put some money on the prolific Karim Benzema to score first at 10/3.
