Wales v Fiji Preview

Wales boss Warren Gatland is going hard at this game against Fiji, only making the two changes from the side that started in their success over Australia. After winning their first two games of the group stage, Wales only need to land success in this one to guarantee a place in the knockouts.

The big story about this one is recalling the 2007 pool stage match when Fiji pulled off a shock 38-34 win over the Dragons to dump the Welsh out of the competition. That was one of the great Rugby World Cup upsets of all time and following that defeat, current head coach Warren Gatland took over. Wales are W9 D1 L1 in the all-time head to head against Fiji.

But then Fiji have lost their last two World Cup fixtures against the Welsh. Fiji had Australia rattled in their opening fixture of the tournament after putting in a great performance, but couldn’t get the win. Then they suffered a shock reverse against Uruguay. But they burst back to life when they pummelled Georgia 45-10. They have to get a win in the bag to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Wales v Fiji Prediction

Wales have passed their big test of getting past Australia and with continuity in their starting lineup, it should be a success for them. Wales need to stick to their plan and their defence should be able to nullify a large threat of Fiji’s running backs.
