There seems to be growing speculation that Wayne Rooney is heading away from Manchester United this summer. While he wasn’t a regular last season, having spent a lot of time warming the bench under Jose Mourinho’s tutelage, on Monday, the club launched off their new shirt with him in attendance, but that hasn’t stopped the price on him leaving the club to join Everton, being trimmed.

He is now shorter than ever at bookmaker Ladbrokes to go and rejoin Everton this summer, which is where the root of the speculation lies. The bookmaker reported seeing a flurry of bets on Rooney making a switch back to Everton on Monday, so much so that they had to trim the price on him from 9/4 down to just 1/5.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Punters have been piling in on a Rooney reunion at Goodison Park this summer.

“The odds have never been shorter and our traders will soon be closing the book if they continue to tumble.”

Rooney left Everton in 2004 for a sum of £25m, making 559 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring a record-breaking 253 goals for them. A move to any Chinese Super League club for Rooney is a price of 5/2 while he is 5/1 to go off to the MLS.
