West Brom News and Form

The Baggies have picked up back to back clean sheet wins over Swansea and Brentford to steady their ship. That was after having picked up just one point from their previous three games. So they are more settled now and will be looking for maximum points out of this Midlands derby. The home form of the Baggies isn’t great though as they have won just one of their last seven on home soil in the Championship, that being their 3-0 victory over Swansea in their last home game.

West Brom have averaged over two goals per home fixtures this season, with 58% of their home games going over 2.5 goals. They haven’t been tight at the back at all though with a clean sheet recorded in just 16% of their home games. Just one of West Brom’s home wins this season have been by a one-goal margin. West Brom have scored 68% of their home goals in the second half of fixtures. They have opened the scoring in 11 of their 19 home fixtures in the Championship this term. Only league leaders Norwich have scored more goals than the Baggies have done this season.

  • The Baggies average over two goals per home game this term
  • Birmingham were handed a 9-point deduction for breach of FFP rules

Birmingham News and Form

So it has been bad news all around for Birmingham. They have collapsed to a four-match losing streak in the Championship, failing to score in any of those games. That saw their outside chances of finishing in the top six crash and burn. Then they were handed a 9-point deduction for breach of FFP rules. That points deduction has left them down in 18th place heading into the weekend, just the five points above the drop zone now. So they can’t really afford to have their losing streak go much further.

Birmingham’s away form this season is at W6 D6 L7 and they have averaged 1.4 goals per road fixture. They have lost their last two out on the road as well, going down without scoring against Hull and Preston. They have claimed only the two victories in their last seven on the road. In total, Birmingham have taken a clean sheet in 21% of their road games. The Blues have no clean sheet in any of their last seven away games, while home and away they are without one in eight. It is going to be very interesting to see how they recover after the major setback of having had those points stripped away.

West Brom v Birmingham Predictions

West Brom to win: Birmingham’s form has taken a nosedive and with that points deduction, that leaves them in a bad place. West Brom should be able to capitalise on all of that on home soil against them. West Brom to win to nil.
