All-EPL clash may need a cup replay

West Brom

West Brom v Southampton Betting Preview – FA Cup 17th February 3.00pm

These two met just recently at the Hawthorns in the Premier League and it was a disappointing blow for the Baggies, who went down 3-2 at home. That really was a blow for their Premier League survival hopes. Can they gain some revenge by getting a win against the Saints in the Cup? Southampton haven’t exactly been in hot winning form and this all-Premier League clash is probably going to be a tight affair.

West Brom v Southampton FA Cup Betting Tips

The Baggies need a good escape to get away from the pressures of the Premier League. They get home soil advantage in the fifth round of the cup but that didn’t do them any favours when they hosted Southampton in the league recently and lost 3-2. West Brom’s home form this season reads W2 D7 L5 so it’s been poor all the way from them. In that recent game against Southampton in the league at the Hawthorns, West Brom got themselves a good early lead after just four minutes, but by ten minutes after half time, they were 3-1 down. They are just not reliable going forward nor at the back. They opened their cup campaign with a win against League Two’s Exeter and then had a huge moment when they beat Liverpool at Anfield in the fourth round which not many people would have seen coming. West Brom have been putting the ball in the back of the net more regularly, but that has come at the expense of a bit of defensive discipline. Both teams to score at Paddy Power is at 5/6 odds* (Betting Odds taken on February 11th, 2018 at 5:42 p.m.).

The Saints won both meetings in the Premier League against West Brom this season which puts them on a three-match winning streak against them. The Saints are doing well in the head to head with a W3 D1 L1 record in their last six against the Baggies. From previous FA Cup clashes, the Saints are 4-1 ahead with three drawn matches between them in the FA Cup. This will be the first clash between the two sides since 1979 when the two played out a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns before the Saints won the replay 2-1 back on home soil.

Southampton have had their struggles this season as well, but they have picked up somewhat since the turn of the new year. They opened with a 1-0 win at Fulham in the FA Cup before going and knocking out Watford. Southampton have rallied to a W2 D1 record in their last three road games and they are unbeaten in four out on the road now (W2 D2). They have also hit the back of the net in all but one of their last five road games too. Southampton to win by a one-goal margin at Paddy Power again at the Hawthorns is at 10/3 odds* (Betting Odds taken on February 11th, 2018 at 5:42 p.m.). Southampton’s recent victory at the Hawthorns suggests that they are less likely to lose this FA Cup visit even if it just getting the tie back to the south coast for a second bite of the cherry. Southampton hold a W3 D5 L5 record out on the road this season which isn’t great, but they have been much better on their travels recently.

West Brom v Southampton FA Cup Betting Odds*

West Brom 8/5, Southampton 7/4, Draw 9/4* (Betting Odds taken on February 9th, 2018 at 11:19 p.m.)

West Brom v Southampton FA Cup Predictions

It’s hard to look past the draw in this one. Neither are exactly reliable enough to go and back heavily to get a win on the board in the game. It’s hard to see who exactly will want this more, so just settle for it being even on the day.
