West Bromwich Albion v Blackburn Rovers Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 31st August 15.00pm

Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to return to winning ways after back-to-back EFL Championship draws. The Baggies welcome Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers to The Hawthorns this Saturday. West Brom are unbeaten in the league so far, winning two and drawing three. As for Rovers, they have taken seven points from their last three matches. This should be an intriguing fixture in the Midlands, but will Blackburn be able to stop Bilic’s boys?

West Bromwich Albion News and Form – Baggies too strong for Rovers?

West Bromwich Albion have struggled at The Hawthorns so far. The Baggies have failed to win any of their opening three league and cup matches on home turf. In the league, Albion have drawn 1-1 with both Millwall and Reading, while they were beaten 2-1 by the Lions at The Hawthorns in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Away from home, though, West Brom have picked up an impressive seven points from a possible nine. Bilic’s side beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the City Ground on the opening weekend of the season, which they followed up with a 2-1 win at Luton Town, becoming the first league team to prevail at Kenilworth Road since March 2018 in the process.

Last weekend, West Brom battled to a draw against Derby County at Pride Park. Phillip Cocu’s men took an early lead, with Martyn Waghorn scoring from the penalty spot. However, Kenneth Zohore rescued a point for Albion for the second game running, scoring once again with a late penalty.

Overall, Bilic will surely be satisfied with West Brom’s start. However, the Baggies will be desperate to pick up their first home win of the season this Saturday.

Blackburn Rovers News and Form – Can Mowbray’s men cause an upset at The Hawthorns?

Blackburn Rovers made a very slow start to their Championship campaign, losing both of their opening two fixtures. After losing 2-1 at home to Charlton Athletic in their season opener, Tony Mowbray’s side were beaten 2-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage on matchday two.

However, they finally got their season up and running by beating Middlesbrough 1-0 at Ewood Park in their third game, with Danny Graham scoring from the penalty spot. Derrick Williams was then on the scoresheet as Blackburn beat Hull City 1-0 at the KCOM Stadium. Meanwhile, Rovers held Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City to a goalless draw at Ewood Park last weekend.

Blackburn, who were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Sheffield United in midweek, have certainly turned a corner in recent weeks. Last season, Rovers finished their first campaign back in the second tier after promotion in a respectable 15th spot. The Lancashire club could be dark horses in the race for the top six this term, and they are currently priced at 14/1 to be a Premier League team next term.

Although this will no doubt be a tough game at The Hawthorns, Blackburn head to the West Midlands full of optimism and belief. Can Mowbray’s men get a result against the Baggies?

West Bromwich Albion v Blackburn Rovers Predictions

West Bromwich Albion win: The Baggies were the top scorers at home in the Championship last season, netting 53 times in 23 home games. They also won over half of their home fixtures. However, Albion have struggled to get going at The Hawthorns so far this term, drawing both matches 1-1. Blackburn head to the Midlands in good form, but I fancy West Brom to pick up their first home win under Bilic on Saturday. The hosts are priced at 4/5.

After making the move from Cardiff City in the summer, Kenneth Zohore is starting to find his feet at The Hawthorns, scoring two goals in his last two games for the Baggies. I’m putting some money on the Danish striker to open the scoring in this one at 11/2.
