West Bromwich Albion News and Form – Can the Baggies bounce back?

Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion crashed to a shock defeat to Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough last time out. The Baggies were off colour, falling to a deserved 2-0 reverse at The Hawthorns.

That was just their second league defeat of the season, with the other loss coming against Leeds at Elland Road in October. Albion have had a little slump in form of late, winning only one of their last five in the Championship. With Leeds winning at Birmingham City last Sunday, the Baggies have dropped down to second.

Make no mistake about it, West Brom have been sensational this season, and they will be hoping that last weekend’s result was just a minor blip in otherwise successful campaign. However, Albion have been far from prolific at home, with five clubs having a better home record to this point. Bilic and his side will be desperate for all three points on home soil on New Year’s Day.

West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United Head to Head

Leeds secured a 1-0 win at Elland Road in October, with a Kyle Bartley own goal the difference

There were nine goals scored in the two Championship meetings last term, with West Brom winning 4-1 at The Hawthorns in November 2018

Leeds have not won at The Hawthorns since a 2-0 Premier League win way back in August 2002

United have won the last two, scoring five and conceding none

Key-Facts – West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United

  • Albion have won just one of their last five
  • Only West Brom have taken more away points than Leeds in this term’s Championship
  • Both teams have accumulated 51 points from 25 matches so far

Leeds United News and Form – Can the Whites secure a ninth away league victory?

After going three matches without victory, Leeds United sealed a much-needed win on Sunday. Marcelo Bielsa’s boys were involved in an absolute thriller against Birmingham at St Andrew’s. After a topsy-turvy 90 minutes, an own goal in injury time gave the Whites a memorable 5-4 victory.

Leeds have been excellent on the road in the Championship this season. Only West Brom have claimed more away points up until now, with United taking an impressive 26 points from a possible 39 on the road.

Leeds are top of the Championship on goal difference as we enter a new decade. A draw at The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day will keep them there until they play Sheffield Wednesday on January 11th.

West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United Predictions

Draw: This is a game that both teams will be desperate to win, as three points could be crucial in the race for the Championship title. However, finishing in the top two will be number one priority for the pair, and they are currently a whopping nine points clear of third-place Fulham after 25 games.

In the reverse fixture at Elland Road a few months back, Leeds nicked it, but it was a very tight affair. This is an extremely tough one to call, so take a punt on the draw and both teams to score at 7/2.

Leeds have picked up nine league and cup away wins this term, scoring the opening goal in each of those. The away side are available at 8/11 to open the scoring at The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day.
