West Bromwich Albion News and Form – Can the Baggies bounce back?

Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion crashed to a shock defeat to Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough last time out. The Baggies were off colour, falling to a deserved 2-0 reverse at The Hawthorns.

That was just their second league defeat of the season, with the other loss coming against Leeds at Elland Road in October. Albion have had a little slump in form of late, winning only one of their last five in the Championship. With Leeds winning at Birmingham City last Sunday, the Baggies have dropped down to second.

 

 

Make no mistake about it, West Brom have been sensational this season, and they will be hoping that last weekend’s result was just a minor blip in otherwise successful campaign. However, Albion have been far from prolific at home, with five clubs having a better home record to this point. After going three matches without victory, Leeds United sealed a much-needed win on Sunday. Marcelo Bielsa’s boys were involved in an absolute thriller against Birmingham at St Andrew’s. After a topsy-turvy 90 minutes, an own goal in injury time gave the Whites a memorable 5-4 victory.

Leeds have been excellent on the road in the Championship this season. Only West Brom have claimed more away points up until now, with United taking an impressive 26 points from a possible 39 on the road.

Leeds are top of the Championship on goal difference as we enter a new decade. A draw at The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day will keep them there until they play Sheffield Wednesday on January 11th.
