Wigan v Bournemouth Betting Preview – FA Cup 17th January 7.45pm

The Cherries survived at home against Wigan by the skin of the teeth in the first attempt between these two. They managed to come up with a 92nd-minute equaliser to stay in the competition. However, League One leaders Wigan are no pushover and they will be a force to be reckoned with back on home soil in this one no doubt. Still a tough tie for Eddie Howe’s Premier League unit.

Wigan v Bournemouth FA Cup Betting Tips

There could still be a hint of a Cup upset going in this one. Wigan so nearly won at the Vitality Stadium but were denied a win in stoppage time. The Latics are flying along at the top of League One and they have only conceded just the twelve goals in their 26 league fixtures this season, while they have averaged nearly two per game for the course of the season. So they were always going to be in this FA Cup tie and they are unbeaten in their last twelve matches across all competitions with a fantastic W7 D5 record in that sequence. They are really tight at the back and have bagged themselves six clean sheets in their last seven games and therefore back at home a Wigan to win to nil at Betfair may have some appeal or at least they have every chance of keeping this game under the 2.5 goal line anyway.

On home soil, Wigan are unbeaten in six and have taken a clean sheet in all but one of those six games. Each of their last three home games though have ended 0-0 and that is an option which warrants a look in the correct score market over 90 minutes. When these two sides last came together in the FA Cup, it was Wigan who won through on a replay in the third round, so there’s a chance of history repeating itself here. In the last seven meetings between the two sides, Bournemouth are slightly up with a W3 D2 L2 record against the Latics. Wigan have lost just one of their last twelve home games against the Cherries.

Bournemouth have started to improve their fortunes in the top flight and got themselves a great three points with a win over Arsenal last weekend. However, that is just one of two victories they have taken in their last thirteen games across all competitions and both of those wins were at home (both by a 2-1 scoreline as well). They have been stepping up their goal output recently which should be noted as the Cherries have scored at least two goals now in each of their last five games in all competitions. But they are still having pretty bad problems at the back though as they haven’t taken a clean sheet in any of their last twelve fixtures. So there will still be an air of vulnerability about them because of that and this FA Cup tie just got a whole lot tougher for them. Bournemouth are without a win in any of their last six on the road, scoring in just half of those games. The Cherries have conceded eight goals in their last three away games now. There is still a hint of a cup upset happening in this tie.

Wigan v Bournemouth FA Cup Predictions

It is worth having a poke at Wigan getting through this. They are a confident, positive side and as they showed at the vitality, they can compete with Bournemouth. They will have the home crowd roaring them and they may just be able to get their scalp after all.
