Wigan v Manchester City Betting Preview – FA Cup 19th February 7.55pm

It has been a great season for Wigan as they look on course to earn promotion back up to the Championship. They get a dream home tie against the Premier League champions-elect for this season, Manchester City. This is a repeat of the 2013 FA Cup Final in which the Latics took a surprise 2-1 victory over the Citizens. Can they possibly pull off another great cup upset against them?

Wigan v Manchester City FA Cup Betting Tips

This is a big night for Wigan then and it will evoke memories of their famous 2013 FA Cup win over Man City. The Latics are challenging well for the League On title and they have had big moments in the FA Cup as well. They knocked out West Ham at the DW Stadium in the last round, beating the Irons 2-0 and in the third round they also took down Premier League opposition as they pummelled Bournemouth in a replay at the DW Stadium as well. Wigan have won four of their last five in all competitions and they have been superb at home and they are currently running on a nine-match unbeaten streak going (W6 D3). Remarkably they have not conceded a single goal in their last six home games now and have conceded in just one of their last nine at home in all competitions (again two of those against Premier League opposition). Can they possibly keep City quiet though? It may be worth a flutter on both teams to score at bet365 for 6/5 odds* (Betting Odds taken on February 9th, 2018 at 11:37 p.m.). The Latics are a positive side and have nothing to lose in this one.

Back in the 2013/14 season, there were two meetings between Man City and Wigan, one in the League Cup, which Man City won 5-0 at home and then in the FA Cup, which Wigan won that 2-1 at the Etihad. That FA Cup success followed up their FA Cup final triumph over the Citizens in the summer of 2013. So the Latics have won two and lost two FA Cup ties against Manchester City in their history. Overall in the head to head across all competitions, Manchester City are 15-8 up with five drawn matches. Those two aforementioned FA Cup wins over City are Wigan’s only avoidances of defeat in their last ten games against City in all competitions. The Latics have lost their last three at home against Man City without having scored.

Manchester City will be expected to get through this tie and in the bet365 correct score market, a Manchester City 2-0 and a Manchester City 3-0 are joint 11/2 favourite options* (Betting Odds taken on February 9th, 2018 at 11:37 p.m.). There was another big home win for them in the Premier League as they hammered Leicester on the weekend, with Sergio Aguero getting four goals. Then they went out on Tuesday and smashed four away goals at Basel in the Champions League. It is a busy month for the Citizens with the return of the Champions League and the EFL Cup final against Arsenal to come as well. Man City’s away form on the domestic front reads W3 D3 L1 in their last seven so they haven’t been quite as dominant as they have been at the Etihad. They may not totally be at full strength it is worth backing both teams to get on the scoresheet. Just twice this season on their travels have Manchester City tasted defeat and really the worst case scenario that they are likely to suffer is a draw. It is just so hard to see them losing.

Wigan v Manchester City FA Cup Predictions

It is worth backing a goal at least both ends. Wigan have already shown their worth against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup this season but this is a whole different challenge for them, but they are value to get a consolation at least. Manchester City should get the win but both teams to score in the fixture anyway.
