Bookmaker William Hill is the new title sponsor of the famous St Leger Stakes, which is the world’s oldest classic horse race. The St Leger, which has been a fixture on the British racing calendar since 1776, will be held at its traditional home of Doncaster Racecourse in mid-September. It is a race which is open to both colts and fillies and is over a distance of one mile and six furlongs.
Along with the sponsorship of the classic race, William Hill will also be title sponsors of a feature race of each day of the four-day festival, which will be known as The William Hill St Leger Festival.
The St Leger was previously under sponsorship by Ladbrokes, but that 12-year partnership had to end because of the BHA (British Horseracing Authority) not allowing firms who are not approved betting partners to sponsor races.

The St Ledger is the last of the five annual British classics and is the final leg of both the Fillies’ Triple Crown and the English Triple Crown, which was last achieved by the Vincent O’Brien-trained Nijinsky in 1970 under renowned jockey Lester Piggott.
