Abel Handy had a decent run out at Newcastle last month over the distance, coming home fourth at a hefty 28/1 price. But he has claimed four 5f wins before and given how well he ran last time out at big odds, it’s a serious nod towards him that he is going off potentially as a joint-favourite.
Fizzy Feet is another like Three Little Birds who has won at course and distance. He came home second over the distance last time out in November and is the youngest of the three front runners. It’s been two wins over the 5f distance and has landed back-to-back second places in his last two runs, which suggests that he is going to be in the frame.
Can old hand Excellent George topple the youngsters?
Excellent George has won six races between 5f and 6f. It was the longer distance for him at Kempton in November where he took a fifth-place finish. So the shorter distance may be more in his wheelhouse at Wolverhampton. He has taken a place finish in three of his last five outings and has plenty of experience at this distance. As a 7-year-old he’s up against some youngster but carries a decent enough rating and weight to show up. Reflkter is top weight for the run and was second from last at Wolverhampton last month at a slightly longer distance. Lomu was a beaten favourite last time out, finishing at the back of the field. He’s had a change of stables though so could be perked up and has the distance. Union Rose has two wins in his last three starts and despite not getting himself going last time out and won this race two years ago.
