Raymond Tusk set for repat over Funny Kid?

Raymond Tusk lined up at Newcastle in the middle of December over a 2m contest and landed the win at 11/4. He beat Monday’s main challenger Funny Kid into second place and this is a race basically under the same conditions, so will the same result play out? Raymond Tusk did have to work hard to get that Newcastle win, working and fighting under he eventually pulled it out by half a length after leading from 2f out. He goes as the even-money favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred on January 12th, 2020 at 2:22 pm)

Can Funny Kid get the extra kick in his step?

2019 wasn’t a bad year at all for Funny Kind three place finishes and a victory from six trips. He closed the gap on Raymond Tusk one furlong out at Newcastle last month, but just didn’t have the extra kick to finish the job. It was a good, competitive run from him and he was a little held up early in the race. In his career he has taken seven wins from 1m to 2m. He gets in among it.

Rainbow Dreamer

Rainbow Dreamer is one of two horses in the race who has won over distance (this being a 2m 110 yard run). Has shown up pretty well in his career on the all-weather. Rainbow Dreamer is also bringing a bit of notable form to the table after landing a 13/8 joint-favourite victory at Kempton by a couple of lengths in early January. That’s back to back wins for him as well worth consideration at the 5/1 mark* (betting odds taken from Betfred on January 12th, 2020 at 2:22 pm).

Scarlet Dragon and Deal A Dollar

Scarlet Dragon is the other distance winner if the field. He has claimed five wins from 7f to 1m 4f so delivering across this extra trip will be a challenge. He was fourth of nine runners in his last outright, which was at Lingfield in December.

Deal A Dollar, like Scarlet Dragon, needs to find the extra distance for a win in this race. His two wins have been at shorter distances, so isn’t likely to be a big contender. He was last out at Chelmsford in December when he was heavily beaten by Pianissimo, who Rainbow Dreamer thrashed at Kempton earlier this month.

Prediction

The Alan King trained Rainbow Dreamer actually checks a lot of boxes for this five-horse field. There is every chance that he is going to get in the frame here after his victory in a handicap at Kempton. The weights may be a slight issue. Raymond Tusk remains the one to beat after his gritty win over Funny Kid.
