Sir Hector leads the charge
In his last outing, Sir Hector went off as the 9/2 joint-favourite over course and distance in November. He was placed second but was disqualified and did get his nose in front during the final furlong but didn’t hold his line. But the 5f distance is the four-year-old’s zone and he has won at that distance before. That win was back in January 2018 at Lingfield. It’s been a busy 2019 for him without hitting success so that could drive punters away from him.
Qaaraat is delivering with the form
There have not been problems with the form of Qarraat who has taken a place finish in each of his last three outings, claiming one win in that sequence. He has a little extra distance in him and he has won at 5f and 6f. He had a good run out over course and distance just last month where he was beaten to the second place by a length and a half. But there has been some nice consistent stuff from him. He is one of the higher-rated horses in the field, four points higher in the handicap than the favourite.
Englishman leads the chasers
Englishman has a bit of form after a second-place finish last time out. That was in a similar field when he was beaten by a length at a price of 14/1. That’s enough to pique some interest because it was at course and distance. He is a seven-time winner at 5f to 6f so should be in contention. Is very well handicapped as well as lighter than the front two.
At Your Service, sired by Frankel, has a couple of wins at 6f. Wasn’t in the picture in a recent outing at Chelmsford City over the 6f mark, but his handicap looks very well suited on him this time out. It’s a mark at which he has won before. So if he’s on his game on the day there could be something in him.
Blackcurrant came through a big field last month over the shorter 5f distance. He was the second of 14 runners at Southwell and the three-year-old looks pretty lively. At the lower end of the handicap, he may not make a bad each-way punt to get himself in the frame. His second at Southwell was from 17/2.
Superseded is the only runner in the field who has won at course and distance and has claimed a couple of wins at Wolverhampton this season. Other distance winners include Red Stripes, It Must Be Faith and Country Rose.
